Mandira Bedi's husband, Raj Kaushal passed away on June 29, 2021, and it came as a shock to their friends and family. Mandira had tied the knot with Raj in February 1999 and 12 years into married life, the couple welcomed their first child, Vir Kaushal. Nine years after his birth, Vir became a big brother as Mandira and Raj Kaushal welcomed a baby girl, Tara Bedi Kaushal via adoption.

As Mandira Bedi and Raj Kaushal were living their happily ever after with their little ones, Vir and Tara, life hit them with a tragedy. Raj passed away due to a heart attack. Confirming the news, director Onir tweeted, "Gone too soon. We lost Filmmaker and Producer @rajkaushal1 this morning. Very Sad. He was one of the producers of my first film #MyBrotherNikhil. One of those few who believed in our vision and supported us. Prayers for his soul."
Mandira Bedi and Raj Kaushal's friend, Rohit Bose Roy posted a picture on Instagram with Raj and captioned it as "One of the nicest guys you could ever have met… and if u were lucky, u could have called him your friend… and just like that, he’s gone, even without saying good bye. too numb with grief and shock to react… This is not fair, just not fair… Raj, my friend, my brother… keep spreading the cheer where ever your next abode is… Knowing your penchant for good homes, I am sure you are looking for a good spot in heaven RIGHT NOW! We all loved you dearly and you know that … unfortunately, we kept saying next week next week and that week never came See you on the other side my bro…. Till we raise hell again, REST IN PEACE @rajkaushal."

It was on the festive occasion of Dussehra, that Mandira Bedi and Raj Kaushal had made the celebrations even more special by announcing that they have welcomed a baby girl into their lives. Revealing that their son, Vir Kaushal is now a big brother, Mandira and Raj had posted their first family picture with Tara and the latter had written, "On this festive occasion of Dussehra we would like to introduce you to the newest member of our family Tara Bedi Kaushal. Finally the family is complete #humdohamaredo."
