Mandira Bedi is a prominent face among famous media personalities in India. Besides being an actor, she appeared as a cricket presenter back in the 2003 Cricket World Cup. Now, coming to her personal front, Mandira tied the knot with Indian director and producer, Raj Kaushal in 1999. The couple welcomed their first child, son, Vir and in 2020, the duo adopted their second child, daughter, Tara. However, following a heart attack, Raj left for the heavenly abode on June 30, 2021. In a recent interview, Mandira Bedi shared her journey of grief after her husband’s death and how she and her family had coped with it.

In a recent conversation with Satyadev Barman on his YouTube channel, The Full Circle, Mandira spoke her heart out after her husband’s death back in 2021. Recalling the tough days, Mandira said that it was very hard for her to deal with the first major occasions after Raj’s death. The actress shared that she used to cry a lot during that phase. Recalling the sad days, Mandira shared:

“I can say it now without fully breaking down, that first year, the first of everything, the first birthday, the first anniversary, first Diwali, Raj loved Diwali, the first New Year, they were all really hard. The firsts of everything is when you sit in your room and you shut the door and you don't want to talk to anybody and you cry, and you cry till you can't cry anymore."

Earlier back in 2024, in an interview with Bombay Times, Mandira shared that slowly, with time, she coped with Raj's death because she had to support her family. The actress also mentioned how she needed therapy to make a comeback to her normal life. Sharing about the saddest days, Mandira said:

"There are moments when we remember him because of a song. I’ve done the therapy I’ve needed to, there are times I still do it. What I can do now is talk about it. It makes me emotional, but I can. There was a time I couldn’t. But I won’t break down… I started working two months after it happened… I have to support my family and myself. I need to do it for my children.”

Mandira Bedi reveals she doesn’t want to mark Raj Kaushal’s death anniversary

In the same conversation, Mandira Bedi revealed that she doesn’t want to remember her husband, Raj’s death anniversary. The actress shared that there is nothing worth remembering about the sad day. Sharing about her decision not to mark her husband’s death anniversary, Mandira said:

"I did a one-month puja, one-year puja and all other rituals. After the one-year puja, I decided I am not going to mark this day (death anniversary) anymore… why should we mark this day...what is there to remember in this day… it’s a sad day in our lives.”

Further in the interview, Mandira shared that when Raj took his last breath, their daughter was just 8-9 months old, so it didn’t affect her. But, the death took a toll on their son, Vir. Mandira mentioned as Vir used to share an awesome bond with his father, he used to cry a lot. The actress also encouraged her son to cry and mentioned that she doesn’t believe in the stereotypical concept “Boys don’t cry”. Addressing the same, Mandira said:

"I never once told him not to cry. ‘Boys don’t cry’ that is crap. I told him cry as much as you feel like and let those tears out because the sooner you let all those tears out we will be able to remember him from a place of joy."
