Mandira Bedi On Adopted Daughter's Luck, 'Who Never Sat In A Car Before, Took A Private Jet..'

Popular actress and television presenter-turned-fashion designer, Mandira Bedi got married to the love of her life, Raj Kaushal on February 14, 1999. Afterwards, they gave birth to a baby boy, on June 19, 2011, whom they named Vir. Following this, they adopted a 4-year-old baby girl and named her Tara Bedi Kaushal. Everything was going well, until June 30, 2021, when Mandira lost her husband due to a cardiac arrest.

Mandira Bedi recalls the struggle of adopting her daughter, Tara

In a recent conversation with Humans of Bombay, Mandira Bedi opened up about the struggles she faced while adopting her daughter, Tara. The gorgeous actress mentioned she and her husband, Raj Kaushal had to do a lot of paperwork before finally being able to adopt their daughter during the peek of the Covid-19 pandemic. Talking about the same, Mandira said:

“I wanted to have a second child and adopt. When my son Veer was about six, I put in the papers for adoption. It’s a long process, and I don’t know why it’s not easier. I mean, I understand the reasons, but when it’s clear that this is a good family, it should be simpler. It took a while, Veer turned nine, the pandemic hit, and I told Raj, ‘It still hasn’t happened. Why?’ We had gotten caught up and didn’t follow up much. So, I thought, it’s now or never, and we pushed forward.”

In the same conversation, Mandira talked about her adopted daughter, Tara's luck. Sharing how the little girl had never sat in a car before, Mandira mentioned that due to the ongoing pandemic around the world, they had to fly their daughter, Tara, from Jabalpur to Mumbai in a private jet. Elaborating on how Mandira's meeting with Tara was everything about luck, she shared:

“This is maktoob… for a girl who had never sat in a car before, she took a trip on a private jet. It was naseeb, kismat. We wouldn’t have used a private jet, but it was too dangerous to fly commercially because Covid was at its peak. It was the most practical solution at the time.”

Mandira Bedi explains why her son initially cried upon knowing that his parents were adopting a baby girl

However, in the same conversation, Mandira mentioned that their son, Veer, was found crying when they were finally bringing Tara home. Mentioning how, at the age of six, Veer was eager to become an elder brother to his sister, but at the age of nine, he was initially not interested anymore. Later, the two kids became close to each other and formed a lovely sibling bond between them. In Mandira's words:

“I was very overwhelmed because a little human being was coming into our life and everything would change. Veer was crying, and I was crying. When we reached the airport, this little girl with a plastic hat came with Raj. She was so small. It took time for her to settle into the family, and for Veer to start liking her.”
