Bollywood has always been a treasure trove of friendships and life lessons, and the bond between Manisha Koirala and Shah Rukh Khan is just another testament to that. During a recent interaction with Pinkvilla, the Heeramandi actress opened up about her decades-long camaraderie with King Khan and the invaluable advice he gave her that shaped her journey in Mumbai.
Recently, Manisha Koirala sat in a candid chat with Pinkvilla, recalling her experiences with Bollywood icons, Shah Rukh Khan and Rekha. During the interaction, the actress recalled her early days of the Bollywood hustle when Shah Rukh Khan had just come to Mumbai from Delhi to adjust to his new life. Talking about how SRK’s insight left a lasting mark on her, Manisha shared:
“Shah Rukh's been my friend from his beginning days. I remember going to his Mount Mary apartment, and there used to be Chattais in his flat. We used to all sit on the Chattais (mat), and we all were buddies and very young.”
Talking about the early days in Mumbai, Manisha recalled that SRK had advised her to get settled in the city and make it her home. She recalled:
“Though I came one or two years earlier to him to Bombay but we bonded a lot. It was him, who advised me to buy a house in Bombay. He said, ‘You know, Manisha, we both have come from outside Bombay, and to belong to Bombay, we need to have a place. Apnapan aa jayega usmein’.”
Manisha further recalled that Shah Rukh Khan was the first person to give her such valuable advice and help her settle down and make Mumbai her home. He was the one who suggested that Manisha would be able to feel rooted in the city once she owned a house to herself. She told Pinkvilla:
“Pehla wo banda tha jisne mujhe advice kiya ki agar tum ghar khareed logi toh you will be rooted here. We will have our own style in it.”
While Shah Rukh encouraged Manisha to settle down in Mumbai with her own home, his journey led him to Mannat, one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. The superstar initially lived in a modest apartment with Gauri Khan but later purchased Mannat, a sea-facing bungalow that has since become a must-visit for fans worldwide.

In an earlier interview on a radio channel, SRK revealed how Mannat was inspired by his Delhi roots. The Jawaan actor revealed how big houses were a norm in Delhi, and seeing Mannat, it helped him decide what he wanted for his home. Reports suggest the Khans have applied for permission to add two additional floors to the property, making it even more luxurious. With an estimated construction cost of Rs. 225 crore, Mannat today stands as a symbol of King Khan’s legacy.
In the same interview, Manisha also shared a star-struck moment with veteran actress Rekha. She recalled being mesmerised when she saw Rekhaji without makeup for the first time. Her natural beauty was enchanting, and it left her speechless.
