Masaba Gupta's Birth Certificate Was Leaked To Prove Neena Had Her Out Of Wedlock, 'It Was Cruel'

Neena Gupta and Masaba Gupta are one of the strongest mother-daughter duos of the entertainment industry. Both of them have refused to conform to society and have always challenged the norms. The circumstances that the mother and daughter faced in life have made them such strong women. Neena had her daughter out of wedlock and stood her ground against society. However, recently, Masaba opened up about the difficulties she faced while growing up. 

Masaba Gupta shared that her birth certificate was leaked to prove that she was the illegitimate daughter of Vivian Richards

Masaba Gupta was born on November 2, 1989, to Neena Gupta and West Indies cricketer, Vivian 'Viv' Richards. The two never married, and Neena raised Masaba as a single mother. However, the veteran actress' affair with Viv Richards dominated the headlines. Especially when the actress was pregnant out of wedlock had made a frenzy in the tabloids. In an interview with Mojo Story, Masaba revealed how many media portals were infringing on her and Neena's privacy even before she was born. The fashion designer shared that her birth certificate was stolen and leaked by the press to prove that she was an illegitimate child and Viv Richards was her father. Masaba said:

“My birth certificate was stolen from the hospital I was born in, and then it was leaked to the press. It was on the front page of a newspaper because someone wanted to prove that I was an illegitimate child. I think I understood it when I was 9-10 years old. I didn’t fully understand it, but I had seen versions of it. I didn’t understand why it was done. It was cruel, strange and very bad for my mother. I can sit here and feel sad about it, but I don’t really know how she did it. People in general are very cruel, and I don’t understand why people had to do that."

When Neena Gupta opened up about how she had her family's support while raising Masaba 

Neena Gupta shared in an interview with Pinkvilla that she doesn't necessarily think about herself as a single mother. The veteran actress said that two years after giving birth to Masaba, her father left everything to support the two of them. Neena called her father the man in her life. In her autobiography, Sach Kahu To, she opened up about making the decision to have a child out of wedlock and wrote:

“Some people advised me to get an abortion. Others cautioned against the perils of being a single parent. I listened to everyone patiently. They were all very concerned, I know. But once I was back home and alone, I asked myself: What do you think? How does this make you feel? The answer was: I was giddy with joy.”
