Fashion designer, Masaba Gupta is experiencing a whirlwind of life events, as she is all set to welcome her first child in October 2024 with Satyadeep Mishra. The couple's marriage in 2023 was quickly followed by the announcement of their 'good news' within a year. Masaba also manages her own makeup brand, Lovechild, and a highly successful fashion line.
Masaba Gupta recently sat for an interview with Faye D'Souza for her YouTube channel, and there she shared that she has often been critiqued for her looks and skin colour. Whenever she looks a bit fair due to light setting in her photos, people call her out but she is unable to explain to them that she is not trying to whitewash her pictures but its just the lighting. In Masaba's words:

“I keep seeing that how lighting plays such a big part in how you look. There have been times where I have done a shoot where the lighting is slightly different, and I am looking little bit more light-skinned than I am. And then people would say, ‘How is your skin so fair?’ It is a skin tint I am showing people, and if I put a filter, my face will look kind of blurred."
Masaba added that after she launched her makeup brand, Lovechild, people have been extremely nasty to her. So much so that someone even compared her with Om Puri. People also comment on her scars, but she hopes that one day these same people will look past her face and see her natural talent. Masaba further added:
"Someone said, ‘But what are you doing with a makeup brand, you have skin like Om Puri.’ What business does anyone have to talk about anything except Om Puri’s acting talent? Sometimes, all that people see is textured skin or acne scars on you. Which is why I have to keep doing more, being more successful. That’s my fight. Hopefully, 10 years later, someone will say they could see beyond my scars.”
In the same interview, Masaba shared that her mother, Neena Gupta, did not allow her to enter the acting world due to her unconventional appearance. Neena said to her that the Indian film industry works in a certain way that associates people with their looks, and Masaba will never get the lead role due to her looks. In Masaba's words:
“She said that the industry in India has always functioned a certain way, and there are certain faces people associate with that of an actor. She said, ‘You will always be considered a bit out of the box, too artsy, that probably get vamp roles, the seductress’. She said if you want to be a mainstream Hindi film heroine, it won’t happen, so I should let it go. I had decided that I didn’t want to be a supporting cast, I like to be front and centre. She said this can be very frustrating as an actor.”
On April 18, 2024, Masaba and Satyadeep announced their ‘good news’ in a collaborative Instagram post. The fashion designer first shared a picture of a pregnant woman emoji in the carousel, followed by avatars of a man and woman with heart-shaped eyes. In the last slide, the couple shared an adorable moment while they sat on the floor.
