Matt Lauer was first married to TV producer Nancy Alspaugh from 1982 to 1989. The duo had no children and moved on in their lives. Later, he met a Dutch model, Annette Roque, on a blind date in July 1997. He was instantly smitten, and after dating her for five months, Matt popped the question to her and they tied the knot in Bridgehampton, New York, on October 3, 1998. They welcomed three children together, but their marriage had already seen its share of struggles. Annette had once filed for separation in 2006, but they reconciled. A source told People:

"People knew Lauer was having affairs, but nobody ever knew it was with people associated with NBC. People knew he would act overly flirtatious with the junior employees around the office. He would take them out for drinks, maybe not to get them drunk, but it wasn't uncommon that he would go out for drinks with junior people at NBC."

She even accused him of causing her emotional distress and cheating on her.
