He began his career as a producer of a news channel in West Virginia, and then he moved on to on-air reporting. It was in the 1980s that Matt Lauer started hosting several TV shows and programs. He also worked with ESPN and the Discovery Channel in the 1980s. Matt's big break came when he joined NBC back in 1992, where he initially was a newsreader for the early morning news program. Later, he started grabbing attention as one of the substitute anchors on the show, Today.

While everything was going smoothly, it was during the MeToo movement in 2017, when Matt, who was reportedly earning USD 20 million a year, was fired from his position at NBC. Several allegations were made against him, including s**ual misconduct in the workplace and having consensual relationships with subordinates.
