Amar Upadhyay is one of the most loved actors in the Indian television industry with a huge fan following. Born into a Gujarati family, Amar did chemical engineering from Mumbai and went to the Film and Television Institute of India to pursue his dream career in acting. It was only after his pictures surfaced in a popular magazine that Jaya Bachchan offered him a role in the cult show, Dekh Bhai Dekh.
He was later seen in many serials such as Arzoo, Suhana Safar, and Mehendi Tere Naam Ki. However, Amar saw immense fame when he starred as ‘Mihir Virani’ in Ekta Kapoor’s classic show, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Amar played the male lead opposite Smriti Irani, who portrayed the character of Tulsi Virani, his on-screen wife.
Such was Amar’s popularity that when his character, ‘Mihir’, died in 2001, there were protests held at many places. Furthermore, the channel’s head office received letters and phone calls expressing that the decision to kill Mihir’s character was not right. As a result, the makers had to bring back ‘Mihir Virani’.
The cult show, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, had garnered immense popularity over the years and featured more than 1,800 episodes. And now, after 25 years, the show is back as a reprise and has hit the audience with nostalgia. The couple soon became parents to two kids.
Amar Upadhyay and Hetal Upadhyay have completed more than 25 years of marital bliss with each other. However, apart from their shared love for travelling and watching movies, the one thing that is still constant is their love towards each other. In an interview with the Free Press Journal, he spoke about the secret of his happy married life and said:
“A few months after we were married, we decided to start a family and have two kids. The idea was that if we have children when we are young, we would still be reasonably young when the children become adults. It was a mutual decision and now we are proud parents of two beautiful kids. I think we did the right thing, we feel great. Hetal and I can be ourselves in front of each other. When you are in love, you want to see your partner happy and you want to walk that extra mile to do things for him/her. Hetal and I want to be there for each other and do things for each other.”
