Anupama Parmeswaran is one of the most talented actresses in the Malayalam film industry. The actress gained wide recognition after her debut film, Premam, in 2015. Born in Irinjalakuda, Anupama studied Communicative English at CMS College, Kottayam. However, she discontinued her college studies to pursue a career in acting.
Anupama is currently leading the headlines after her much-awaited film, Janaki V V/S State Of Kerala, received censor board approval for release. The film has been subject to a legal dispute after the Central Board of Film Certification declined to certify it. The use of the name Janaki for the lead character was considered insensitive, as the name was associated with the goddess Sita.
The initial title of the film, Janaki v/s State of Kerala, was revised to Janaki V v/s State of Kerala, and the film was released on July 17, 2025. Produced by J. Phanindra Kumar, the film stars Anupama Parmeswaran in the lead role, playing the character of Janaki Vidhyadharan. Anupama Parameswaran began her acting career at the age of 19 and made her debut in Malayalam cinema with the Super-hit romantic drama, Premam in 2015. The romantic comedy garnered her a lot of attention, and she became a household name. After the success of the Premam movie, she stepped into Tamil and Telugu films. She made her debut in Telugu with the film, A Aa in 2016.
In 2019, Anupama made her debut in the Kannada film industry alongside the renowned Kannada superstar, Puneeth Rajkumar. With films like Jomonte Suvisheashangal, Kodi, Shatamanam Bhavati, Maniyarayile Ashokan, Kurup and many other films, Anupama established herself as a versatile actress in the South Indian film industry.

Anupama Parmeswaran was last seen in a full-fledged Malayalam film when she played the role of ‘Shyama’ in Maniyarayile Ashokan, after which she did a cameo in Kurup. However, Anupama took a break from acting in Malayalam cinema for five years as she was trolled for her acting. She is making her comeback in Malayalam cinema with the film, Janaki V vs State of Kerala after a hiatus of five years. During the audio launch of the film, Anupama revealed why she took a break from the Malayalam industry and said:
“A lot of people have trolled me, saying that I can’t act. Irrespective of all of that, this film’s director (Pravin Narayanan) cast me as the lead character. This movie has a heart and it is Janaki, and thank you for entrusting me with her.”
Anupama grabbed a lot of attention when a kissing photo of hers with actor Chiyaan Vikram's son, Dhruv Vikram, leaked online. It so happened that a playlist created by Anupama, which featured her and Dhruv’s favourite songs, went viral on Reddit. The Spotify playlist titled Blue Moon, showed the duo kissing in the display image.
After the picture went viral, people started speculating about Anupama and Dhruv’s relationship. Soon, the playlist was made private. Few people stated that the picture was a publicity stunt, while many thought that the two had genuinely found love in each other.
Anupama Parmeswaran is all set to make her comeback to the Malayalam film industry with Janaki V vs State of Kerala. The storyline follows 'Janaki', an IT professional from Bengaluru, who visits her hometown in Kerala and becomes entangled in a traumatic incident, prompting her to seek justice through the court. The case takes an interesting turn when 'Advocate David Abel Donovan', portrayed by Suresh Gopi, enters the proceedings.
