Meet Democrat Emily Gregory Who Flipped GOP In Fla. Special Election, All On Her Husband And Kids

First-time democrat Emily Gregory has sparked national interest after her historic win over Trump-backed republican Jon Maples, securing her seat at Florida's State House District 87 that includes President Donald Trump's Palm Beach estate, Mar-a-Lago. She defeated John Maples with just over 51% of the vote, marking a historic moment in a district that has long been considered a GOP stronghold.

With her win, the interest around her personal life has grown, the one that she shares with her military husband and their three kids. Here's what we know about her.

Who is Emily Gregory?

The Florida special legislative elections, which took place on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, saw history unfold when Gregory cinched higher votes than republican and financial adviser, John Maples. The newly elected Democratic representative for Florida, 40, is a political newcomer, having previously established her career in health and fitness.

Born in May 1985 in Martin County, Florida, Gregory graduated with a degree in Health and Exercise Science from Wake Forest University, later pursuing a master's degree in Health Policy and Management from Columbia University. She has been associated with the health industry for over 15 years and even owns a small business of her own, called FIT4MOM Palm Beach. Her business provides specialised fitness plans to prenatal and postpartum women, which has helped her build strong ties to local families and communities.

As a South Florida native, Emily Gregory positioned herself as a grassroots-level candidate who is relatable, unlike traditional political figures. Her campaign has heavily focused on the affordability of basic amenities such as housing, insurance, groceries, and gas prices. On her Instagram, she describes herself as a "mom" and a "small business owner" who wants nothing but the best for the kids and a "voice of common sense" in the neighbourhood. She wrote in one of her posts:

"Why am I running? Because of them. Because of all our kids... I'm running ... to fight for a future where families come first; where our public schools are fully funded, healthcare is accessible, and our environment is protected for the next generation. I'm a mom, a neighbor, small business owner, and a voice for common sense in Tallahassee."
