Meet Jahnavi Dangeti, India's YOUNGEST Astronaut From Andhra Pradesh To Travel In Space In 2029

India is all set to witness a proud moment in the coming years, in the field of space exploration. Jahnavi Dangeti, from Andhra Pradesh is all set to create history, as the youngest space enthusiast. She has been selected for a historic space mission to the Titan Orbital Port Space Station, which is expected to launch in 2029. Her journey from a small town to receive global recognition is an inspiration to many young people who wish to get into the field of space. 

Who is Jahnavi Dangeti?

Jahnavi Dangeti, who is 21 years old, is from Palakollu, a town in Andhra Pradesh. She was born on September 16, 2002, and after she completed her schooling, she moved to Punjab's Lovely Professional University to get a Bachelor's degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering. Her parents, Padmasri and Srinivas, currently reside in Kuwait, but have been showering their support on their daughter despite the distance.

Apart from engineering, she has always been interested in science and space. She is a strong supporter of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education and has given talks at ISRO events and NIT colleges across India. At a very young age, she was the youngest Indian to train as an analogue astronaut in Poland. Later, Jahnavi became the first Indian to complete NASA’s International Air and Space Program.

Jahnavi Dangeti has been selected for space travel in 2029

Jahnavi Dangeti has been officially selected to be a part of the Titan’s Orbital Port Space Station mission, a space mission that will be led by a U.S. based team and is scheduled for 2029. Her selection makes her the youngest astronaut to reach this milestone globally. Recently, she shared the great news on her Instagram handle. In the post, she also mentioned that in the next three years, starting from 2026, Jahnavi will undergo intense astronaut training, which will include simulations of spacecraft procedures, emergency survival drills, psychological and medical evaluations, and underwater and high-altitude training to prepare her for the challenges of living and working in space. Her caption is:

“As a kid who believed that the Moon followed me, I didn’t know it was leading me here. Today, that childhood wonder becomes a part of my reality. I’m incredibly honored and excited to announce that I have been officially selected as an Astronaut Candidate (ASCAN) for Titans Space – Inaugural Class of 2025.”

Jahnavi Dangeti’s dedication and love towards space science and STEM education has got her several notable awards. She has won the People’s Choice Award at NASA’s Space Apps Challenge, a big global competition where people solve real-world problems using space data. She was also given the Young Achiever Award during ISRO’s World Space Week for her amazing efforts in spreading knowledge about space. Apart from this, Jahnavi is often invited, and she gives talks at top colleges like NITs and events organized by ISRO, where she inspires young students, especially girls, to dream big and take up careers in science and technology.
