Harish Roy, the famous Kannada actor best known for his role as 'Don' in Om and also 'Chacha' in KGF, is no more. The actor, after a prolonged fight with thyroid cancer, passed away at the age of 55. Harish's thyroid cancer had reached stage four, and it had also spread to his stomach. The actor had to spend lakhs on his treatment and had his share of struggles. However, do you know that before Harish made his mark in the movie industry, he had a gold shop?
Fans of Harish Roy in the Kannada movie industry are mourning the loss of the legendary star. Did you know that Harish Roy, before entering the movie industry, was a businessman? Harish was born and raised in Karnataka near Shimoga. Before the actor entered movies, he had a life as a businessman. Harish used to own a small gold jewellery shop, reportedly in his hometown. The actor had a stable income and always dreamt of becoming a star, driven by his deep love for cinema since his youth.

Harish's journey was always filled with struggles. After making the tough decision to sell his jewellery business to pursue his dream of acting, Harish moved to Bengaluru. It has been the hub of the Kannada movie industry, and he had to toil under the sun. This was because Harish did not have any cinematic background, had financial issues, and also had very limited sources of contacts. He started doing theatre work and also supporting roles in order to gain experience. Harish reportedly earlier in media statements shared how he left everything behind to become a star, came to Bengaluru, and pursued his love for cinema. Harish's love for movies never left him alone, as after leaving his gold shop for his elder brother, he tried his luck. Harish, in a press statement, had shared:
"I can't live without cinema. No matter how difficult it is, I won't come out of it."

Harish Roy, according to a report by SSTV media, has left behind his wife and son, who are battling with the loss of the actor. Harish, in an interview with the publication, revealed that his wife is a school teacher and was always adamant not to ask money from anyone, even when he started facing tough times. Harish credited his wife for becoming an actor, and in the interview shared:
"She does not reach out to anyone for money. The biggest reason I became an artist was my wife. She buried her wish and supported my dream."

For the unversed, Harish Roy's medical bills were going till Rs 70 lakh as his treatment required three sets of weekly injections. The cost of one injection, according to the report, was around Rs. 3.55 lakh. Harish's sea of fans and followers came ahead to support the actor with his medical bills. However, Harish was proud that his son, who was studying when he started facing financial issues, never burdened him by asking for money. The actor shared that his son had told him that he would work and also look after himself.

In the recent times, the actor had also taken to his Instagram handle to request his fans to pray for his speedy recovery and help him financially for the medical treatment. On the other hand, Harish always wanted to return to the cinema after his recovery from cancer.

According to a report by the Outlook India, Harish Roy best known for essaying, 'Khasim Chacha' from YRF's KGF revealed of being detected with stage 4 throat cancer. He was taking treatment at Kidwai Hospital, Delhi, and shared how four years back he had seen a small hump in his throat. The actor did not want to undergo surgery but complete KGF and revealed of how his lungs had started accumulating water. Harish had shared:
"My kids were very young and I was afraid of surgery on the throat. So I thought let me finish KGF. I’ll gain a good name, and then I can take the risk. But, during that time, my cancer had spread to my lungs and my lungs started to accumulate water."
The report by Outlook also shared that Harish Roy used to feel breathless on the sets of KGF. He was unable to afford private hospital treatment, so he went to a state-run hospital. Doctors told Harish of how his cancer reached stage four but said it was curable, but the treatment was expensive.
