Fatima Bosch Fernández hails from Mexico’s Santiago de Teapa, Tabasco, and is the first woman from her state to win Miss Universe Mexico and now the Miss Universe crown itself. Born on May 19, 2000, the 25-year-old stepped into the world of pageantry after winning the Golden Flower title at the Flor Tabasco 2025. Then, after winning Miss Universe Tabasco 2025, she competed in Miss Mexico 2025.

Bosch studied Fashion and Apparel Design at Universidad Iberoamericana and continued her training in Milan at the Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti and at the Lyndon Institute in Vermont. She has been open about her struggle with learning disabilities, including dyslexia and ADHD, and has become a voice for neurodiversity on the global stage. Her personal story has significantly shaped her confidence on stage, especially during the Top 5 interview, when she stated her goal to serve others through her platform.

Before her beauty pageant journey, Bosch was a professional model. After competing in Flor Tabasco, she won the Miss Universe Tabasco title, which qualified her to compete at the national level and was eventually crowned Miss Universe Mexico. And now, as the 74th Miss Universe, she officially gets her name listed alongside iconic titleholders like Lupita Jones, Ximena Navarrete, and Andrea Meza.

What made Bosch walk out of Miss Universe 2025? All about the sash-ceremony confrontation

This year’s Miss Universe pageant has been a whirlwind of controversy and viral moments that caught viewers off guard. While Bosch’s win is the new highlight, she faced an unexpected controversy early on during the sash ceremony in Thailand, when Miss Universe executive Nawat Itsaragrisil publicly singled her out for missing a promotional shoot.

Nawat, who was overseeing the pageant on behalf of the Miss Universe Organisation, questioned several contestants about skipping a scheduled social media shoot. When he turned to Miss Mexico, Fatima Bosch, he demanded an explanation for her absence, accusing her of disrespecting the host country. He was heard saying:

“Mexico, where are you? I heard you’re not going to support everything about Thailand. Is that true?”

While Fatima tried to explain her absence from the shoot, Nawat cut her off, calling her “dumb,” a remark that immediately angered the other contestants. Nawat even went on to accuse her of listening only to the Miss Mexico team rather than the Miss Universe directors, and tried to silence her by asking why she was talking back. However, the 25-year-old stood her ground and refused to back down. In a moment that has won over the global audience’s heart, Fatima reminded him that she had a voice and deserved respect, saying:

“As women, you need to show respect for us. I’m here representing a country, and it’s not my fault that you have problems with my organisation."

Adding to the contestant's frustration, Nawat called security on Fatima, who walked out of the room in protest at the humiliation. Several delegates from other countries followed her, including the reigning Miss Universe, Victoria Kjær Theilvig. Many of Bosch’s co-contestants followed her out of the room, completely ignoring Nawat’s orders to sit down if they wanted to be a part of the competition. Miss Universe president Raul Rocha condemned the incident, and Nawat later issued a public apology.

The glass shard incident that left Fatima Bosch in intense pain

Before the finale, Bosch faced an unexpected setback when she stepped on broken glass in her hotel room, leaving a shard lodged in her foot. With rehearsals in full swing and no time for medical treatment before the pageant ended, she pushed through the pain. Although she managed to remove most of the fragments, one piece remained, causing sharp discomfort that intensified every time she walked barefoot or in thin-soled shoes.

“It hurts so much. I’m pretty sure there’s a tiny piece still inside,” Fatima told her followers during a livestream. However, she refused to let the setback pull her back from commitments. With her unyielding will and support of the other contestants, she stayed focused on her goal.
