Indian cinema has given us many renowned gems who carved a name for themselves and etched a place in people’s hearts. Even after they leave the industry, they are always remembered for their spectacular performances. One such star is HC Keerthana, who gained immense popularity with the many roles she played in films.
She began her career as a child actress and went on to star alongside many popular stars. However, destiny had other plans for her, and she left the industry to serve the nation. Despite her tremendous career, HC Keerthana quit acting and went on to pursue a career in administrative services. Let us read on to know more about her.
HC Keerthana started her career at a very tender age and starred in many South Indian films and TV shows. During her stint in the glamour world, Keerthana appeared in more than 32 films and 48 TV shows, which included Karpoorada Gombe, Ganga-Yamuna, Muddina Aliya, Upendra, Kanoor Heggadati, Circle Inspector, O Mallige, Lady Commissioner, Habba, Dore, Simhadri, Janani, Chiguru, and Putani Agent.
Ever since she made her acting debut, Keerthana has enjoyed huge popularity among the masses. The actress also received a lot of awards and accolades for her performances. In 1992, Keerthana starred alongside Tamil sensation, Vijay in the film, Naalaiya Theerpu. The duo was loved for their stupendous pairing and got a lot of love from the audience.
Keerthana worked in the film and television industry till the age of 15 and later decided to quit the industry to concentrate on her studies. The actress, who was at the peak of her career, left the industry to fulfil her father’s dream and started preparing for UPSC.

After dedicating herself completely to clearing the exams, HC Keerthana cleared her UPSC exam with AIR 167. Do you know, Keerthana took five years to clear the exam? Despite the repeated attempts, she failed to clear the exams, and it was in the sixth attempt that she finally managed to clear it with flying colours.
For her first posting, HC Keerthana served as the Assistant Commissioner in the Madhya Pradesh district of Karnataka. She also cleared the Karnataka Administrative Services exam in 2011 and worked as a KAS officer for two years. It was during her service as a KAS officer that Keerthana developed a passion for UPSC.
Despite failing multiple times, Keerthana didn’t lose hope and kept trying till she succeeded in achieving her dream. Once, in an interview, the former actress spoke about her failed attempts and said:
“I have seen many people hesitating in stating the number of attempts they have made to crack this exam. Many say that they get embarrassed to admit they could not make it even after 3/4/5 attempts. But then I wear my 6th attempt as a badge because that shows my perseverance and passion towards clearing this exam.”
