Meet Benedict Taylor: Radhika Apte's Husband, British Violinist And Musician, Had A 'DIY Marriage'

Radhika Apte is among the most talented actresses in Indian cinema who rose to fame with the rise in OTT culture. She has delivered powerful performances in series like Sacred Games, Vikram Vedha, A Call To Spy, Forensic, Made in Heaven, Pad Man, Raat Akeli Hai, and more. Despite the success, Radhika has kept her personal life away from media glares and sparingly shares details about it. For those unaware, she is married to a British musician, Benedict Taylor and the couple welcomed their first child together in 2024. However, her fans have long been curious about the Andhadhun actress's life partner, Benedict and here's everything you need to know about him. 

Who is Benedict Taylor?

Benedict Taylor is a Britain-based violinist, musician, and composer who has made a mark in the British and European music scene. He began his career in 2000. The violinist has always been open about his deep love for music. Benedict particularly gained fame for his work on composition for live performance, film, theatre, contemporary dance, art installation, and electroacoustic composition. In an interview with Scroll, he shared that music for him is about deconstructing and exploring different sounds in his instruments. 

He has worked in several music organisations and ensembles, including the clapTON Ensemble, London Improvisers Orchestra, Berlin Improvisers Orchestra, Project Instrumental, Tokyo Improvisers Orchestra, and more. Apart from international work and achievements, he has also collaborated with Indian musicians and contributed to making soundtracks for projects like Udta Punjab, Paatal Lok, Qarib Qarib Singlle, Sonchiriya, and more. 

Apart from his solo work, Benedict is a part of the musical duo known as Naren and Benedict along with Naren Chandavarkar. The duo has worked on several well-known projects, combining their artistic influences. One of their key collaborations was for Anurag Kashyap's project, That Girl In Yellow Boots. 

Benedict Taylor and Radhika Apte had a 'DIY marriage'

Radhika Apte and Benedict Taylor's love story began when Radhika took a break and went to London in 2011 to learn contemporary dance. They soon fell in love and soon got married. Later, in an interview, the musician mentioned that their decision to marry was practical because they found it difficult to live apart, and Radhika had to apply for visas again and again to visit him. Gradually, they got their families on board and made the call. 

The couple also connected creatively over music and acting, tying the knot in a small wedding in 2012. In 2013, Radhika and Benedict shared the news with the world and held a proper ceremony. The actress once shared that everyone at their wedding was drunk so no one could take a picture of the big day. Calling her marriage a 'DIY Wedding', Radhika recalled the day in an interview with India Today and said: 

"When I got married to Benedict 10 years ago, we forgot to click pictures. We had a DIY marriage. We called our friends, made food ourselves, had the wedding at a place in Northern England, and partied. But no pictures. Even though half of our friends were photographers, none of them either clicked any pictures. We were all so drunk. So I don't have any pictures of my wedding. Which is nice in a different way."

Despite getting married, Benedict Taylor and Radhika Apte have maintained a long-distance marriage, as Radhika works in India and Benedict works in the UK. Still, they try to find time for each other and simultaneously used to visit one another in London and India. Radhika once called the arrangement 'heartbreaking', but explained that continue to do so for work and love. In an interview with Cosmopolitan India, she said: 

"There have been times when it turns into a month-and-a-half due to our schedules, but we don't ever stretch it beyond that. If you really want to be with somebody, you make that effort; it automatically becomes a priority. And it's very intuitive, it's what we need, and what we want to do."

The couple announced they would welcome their first child together after 12 years of marriage when Radhika was seen with a baby bump on the red carpet at the London Film Festival. Later, in December 2024, the 39-year-old shared a picture of her working on a laptop and breastfeeding her child, confirming that she and Benedict welcomed a daughter. 

After sharing the wonderful announcement, Radhika shared pictures from her maternity photoshoot with Vogue and revealed that she and Benedict didn't have an accidental pregnancy. But they also didn't plan one. Consequently, they were shocked to hear about the same. They didn't want to have kids but were curious about what parenthood would be like. As a result, they went ahead with it.
