Bollywood actors enjoy a vast fan following, and the love showered upon them by their fans is immense. From Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Ajay Devgn to Hrithik Roshan, people wait for hours outside these celeb’s homes to get a glimpse of them. However, there are many supporting actors in the industry who enjoy equal fame as the leading men.
One such actor is Savi Sidhu, who has played many notable roles throughout his career. However, many times, destiny has other plans, and something similar happened with Savi. The actor, who was once seen in critically acclaimed films, ended up being a security guard. Let us read on to know what went wrong in his life.
Born and brought up in Lucknow, Savi moved to Chandigarh to pursue a career in modelling. He then studied law and also joined theatre. His career in Bollywood began in 1995, when he played a small role in the film, Taaqat. Impressed by Savi’s performance, director, Anurag Kashyap cast him in Black Friday, where he played the role of ‘Commissioner A.S. Samra’.
Savi’s role in Black Friday caught the attention, of many, and he received a lot of applause. He went on to star in films like Gulaal, Patiala House, Nautanki Saala, D-Day, Jal, Arrambam and Bewakoofiyaan. Every role played by Savi was praiseworthy, and he did complete justice to each character he played on-screen.
After Bewakoofiyaan, Savi gradually disappeared from the entertainment world and after many years, was spotted working as a security guard. Yes, you read that right. During a conversation with Film Companion, the former actor spoke about his personal struggles and revealed that he lost his family members one after other. Savi also shared that the toughest moment for him was when he lost his wife, after which he lost his parents and in-laws. The actor was left all alone.
Going further in the interview, Savi also narrated his financial condition and shared that he couldn’t even afford a bus ticket. In his words:
“It is a 12-hour tough job. It’s a mechanical job. I don’t even have money to buy bus tickets. To watch a film in a theatre is like a dream now. My financial condition is not good.”
Soon after Savi’s condition came out in the open, many Bollywood celebs reacted to the same and showered their sympathy on him. However, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap heaped praise on Savi and his choice, rather than wasting his life. Anurag’s tweet can be read as:
“I respect Savi Siddhu as an actor and have cast him thrice when he earned the role. I respect him that he chose to live his life with dignity and picked a job unlike so many entitled out of work actors who have either become alcoholics or wasted themselves away.”
Breaking into the film industry is relatively easy, but sustaining a career with consistently good work is challenging. Savi Sidhu is a testament to the unpredictable life of an actor.
