Meet Malayalam Actress Shweta Menon, Failed First Marriage, Had Her Real Delivery Filmed For A Movie

Shweta Menon is one of the most popular names in the Malayalam industry, who, over the years, has done a variety of roles. Before making it onto the silver screen, she worked as a model and television anchor. Shweta gained popularity in Bollywood with the cult song, Humko Tumse Pyaar Hai, in the film Ishq.

She was also seen in the Salman Khan starrer, Bandhan and has done many glamorous roles in Hindi films. The gorgeous actress ventured into the Malayalam film industry and did many substantial roles in films like Paleri Manikyam: Oru Pathirakolapathakathinte Katha, Salt N’ Pepper, Rathinirvedam and many others.

Shweta is known for her woman-centric and bold characters in films, and the actress has often faced the brunt of it as well. Who is Shweta Menon?

Born in Chandigarh to Malayali parents, Shweta did her initial schooling in Kerala. She started her acting career in 1991 with the Malayalam film, Anaswaram, in which she played the female lead opposite superstar, Mammootty. In 1994, Shweta focused on modelling and became the first Gladrags female supermodel.

She then competed in the Miss India contest and finished as third runner-up. With films like Asoka, Maqbool and Corporate, Shweta has acted in over 30 films. After her long pause, Shweta soon returned to the Malayalam film industry in 2006 with the films Keerthi Chakra and Paradesi.

Besides her journey in films, Shweta has anchored many TV, stage and award shows. Shweta gained huge popularity when she participated in season 1 of the reality show, Bigg Boss.

Shweta Menon’s failed first marriage

It was in 2004 when Shweta Menon married model, Bobby Bhonsle. However, her marriage to Bobby was short-lived, and the duo parted ways within three years. Marrying Bobby was a hasty decision that Shweta took when she was naive and new to the industry. She was working alone in Mumbai, and when she fell in love with Bobby, it felt right.

However, her father was against her marriage to Bobby and even told her that she would regret it later. In an interview with a Malayalam magazine, Shweta recalled her failed first marriage and shared:

“My first wedding with Bobby was the biggest mistake of my life. Such a thing should never have happened. That marriage would never have taken place if my father were a strict person. When I was adamant about getting married to him, my father used to tell me that I will regret later in my life. Now, as I think about that moment, I feel he knew a situation like divorce would come up.”

Shweta Menon recorded her real-life delivery for her film

After her divorce from Bobby, Shweta found love again in the arms of Sreevalsan Menon in 2011. Sreevalsan is a journalist and was working for a Malayalam media in Mumbai when the duo met at a magazine shoot. In 2012, the couple welcomed their daughter, Sabaina. Yes, you read that right. For her film, Kalimannu, Shweta Menon got her delivery shot live, in front of three cameras. For the film, directed by acclaimed director, Blessy, Shweta got her delivery shot for about 45 minutes. During the making of the film, Shweta was pregnant, and the actress agreed to film her pregnancy and childbirth for the film. However, the scene grabbed a lot of controversy for commercialising childbirth.
