A couple from Indore, Raja Raghuvanshi and Sonam Raghuvanshi got married, and went out for their honeymoon on May 16, 2025. The couple reached Meghalaya, and then on May 21 and 22, they decided to explore waterfalls like Wei Sawdong and Nohkalikai in Sohra (Cherrapunji). However, things turned upside down, when on May 23, 2025, the couple was reported to have gone missing.
A few days later of the heavy investigation, the husband's body was found in far deep inside of a steep valley in Meghalaya's Weisawdong Waterfall's parking area. Now, police have confirmed that they have detained the three assailants along with Sonam, the wife of the deceased, and revealed that it was her, who had orchestrated her husband's murder.
This case, involving Raja Raghuvanshi and Sonam Raghuvanshi, grabbed a whole lot of media and social media attention. In no second, the report had gone viral and dominated all the headlines, making it even more important and urgent to solve the mystery. Well, recently, DGP, Idashisha Nongrang confirmed that overnight raids took place to detain the accused, and the police remained successful in doing the same. While two of these assailants were found in Indore, another one was detained in UP. According to the officials, during investigations, the assailants have revealed that they were hired by Raja's wife, Sonam to murder him.
On the other hand, on June 7, 2025, Sonam was found in an unconscious state in a local dhaba in Ghazipur. Later, she was taken to the nearby hospital for further treatment, wherein she confessed before the police about plotting her husband's murder. She was later taken into custody. Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma praised the Meghalaya police for their brilliance in solving the case within 7 days. In a Tweet, he has written:
"Within 7 days, a major breakthrough has been achieved by the #meghalayapolice in the Raja murder case...3 assailants who are from Madhya Pradesh have been arrested, female has surrendered and operation still on to catch 1 more assailant...well done."
A day before they had gone missing, Raja Raghuvanshi and Sonam Raghuvanshi arrived in Nongirat, and they were last spotted checking out from Balaji Homestay. The next day, there had been no traces of Raja or Sonam. Following the same, an investigation began, and a scooter that they had rented was found abandoned at Sohrarim, leading the homestay owner to lodge a missing complaint. Police launched an investigation, and a few days later, the businessman, Raja's body was found inside a deep gorge in the Weisawdong Parking Lot at Riat Arliang. Police had suspected that the murder was committed by a machete, which was recovered from near the dead body.

During the investigation, a local guide reported to the police that he had seen the couple with three other men on the day they went missing. As per the guide, the three men and the couple were seen climbing 3000 steps from Nongriat to Mawlakhiat. The guide offered the couple his service on May 22, but they refused and opted for some other guide to help them reach down to Nongriat.
