'Golden Bachelor's' Mel Owens Opens Up On Divorce After His Ex-Wife Found A New Love 'You Can Beg..'

Mel Owens, the 66-year-old lead of The Golden Bachelor, has been in the spotlight ever since he was announced as the next 'Bachelor' on ABC's popular reality dating show. As the show nears its grand finale, only three women, Cindy Cullers, Peg Munson, and Debbie Siebers, are left to compete for the final rose. While Mel's journey has caught everyone's attention, the retired NFL Linebacker and attorney recently opened up about his difficult divorce and how it shaped his views towards love.

Is Mel Owens upset after his ex-wife found a new love?

Mel Owens recently sat down for an interview with US Weekly and opened up about his expensive divorce from his ex-wife, Fabiana Pimentel, in 2020. The retired NFL linebacker broke his silence for the first time outside of the show and admitted that although it was not easy for them to separate after two decades, he has learnt to find peace. Mel addressed the claims of Fabiana finding new love and acknowledged that he does not want to get in the way of anyone's happiness. In his words:

"I'm never going to get in the way of someone's happiness. Suppose you want to find somebody else in a different phase of your life. It hurts, but I can't get in the way of your happiness. And what's your happiness may not be my happiness. That'd be a real conflict. You can't stop somebody, say, 'I'm over here now.' You can beg and plead, but I'm fine. Life is short, and if you're in love with somebody else, that's fine."

Furthermore, Mel Owners added that he has two sons, Lucas, 20 and Andre, 18 whom he needs to think about before himself. For those unaware, the Golden Bachelor's divorce was finalised in late 2024. However, it was anything but simple. According to Parade and US Weekly, Mel Owens was ordered to pay nearly USD 1 million in child and spousal support, along with property and legal fees. However, despite the financial loss, he has retained crucial assets, including a multimillion-dollar home in Orange County, California. 

Mel Owens and Fabiana Pimentel had a decade-long marriage before their split 

Before entering the reality TV world, Mel Owens and Fabiana Pimentel had a long marriage, which began in 2002 when she was 23 and he was 43 years old. Over the years, they have built a life together in California, raising two sons. Their older son, Lucas, graduated from Santa Margarita Catholic High School in and Andre, a senior, has committed to play basketball at Oklahoma State University. Interestingly, it was Andre who encouraged his father to join The Golden Bachelor to give another chance to love after years of focusing on work and family.

Who is Fabiana Pimentel? 

Mel Owens' ex-wife, Fabiana Pimentel, is originally from Brazil. She has lived in the US for over two decades. Fabiana had earned her bachelor's degree in business from Faculdade da Cidade in Brazil and later completed a master's in marketing from UCLA. Professionally, she serves as Director of Experiences at Preferred Hotels & Resorts. Previously, she had founded a home organisation company, Final Touch Organising, inspired by Feng Shui principles. Sharing her thoughts about Mel Owens's participation in The Golden Bachelor, she told to Daily Mail:

"Good luck. I mean, it's going to be bad. But anyway, I don't want to be involved in this."
