American actress, Mary Louise Streep, popularly known as Meryl Streep, is an iconic actress who has been widely regarded as ‘the best actress of her generation’. She is known for her incredible versatility and ability to adapt to a variety of accents, which enabled her to captivate audiences for decades. She has won numerous awards for her performances and is considered a true legend in Hollywood.
One of her most beloved roles was in the 2006 hit film, The Devil Wears Prada, and she still continues to impress fans with her recent appearance in the third season of the popular comedy thriller series, Only Murders In The Building. At 74 years old, Streep's talent and charisma show no signs of slowing down. However, there’s a piece of bad news for the fans of the legendary actress.

Reports have surfaced confirming that Meryl Streep and her husband of 45 years, Don Gummer, have been living separate lives for more than six years. Don Gummer is a renowned sculptor who has been married to the popular actress since 1978. While the couple has not yet commented on the matter, sources have confirmed to the media outlet, Page Six that the two have been separated for quite some time. It remains unclear why the separation occurred. The source said:
“Don Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for more than six years, and while they will always care for each other, they have chosen lives apart.”
This piece of information comes as a shock because Meryl Streep was spotted at the Princesa de Asturias Awards 2023 on October 20, 2023, looking stunning with her wedding band on. However, the last time she was seen with her husband, Don Gummer, was back in 2018 during the Oscars.

Meryl Streep and Don Gummer first met in 1978 when the actress was still grieving the loss of her late boyfriend and Deer Hunter co-star, John Cazale, who had died of lung cancer that same year. They got married in 1978 and have kept their relationship away from the public's prying eyes. The couple has four children together, including singer-songwriter, Henry Wolfe, actresses, Mamie Gummer and Grace Gummer, and Louisa Jacobson.

In a 2002 interview with Vogue, Meryl revealed that their secret to a long-lasting marriage was their willingness to bend and shut up occasionally. She further added:
"There's no road map on how to raise a family: It's always an enormous negotiation. But I have a holistic need to work and to have huge ties of love in my life. I can't imagine eschewing one for the other."
In an interview with Sydney Morning Herald in 2019, she elaborated on their partnership, saying that Gummer was the ‘good cop’ to her ‘bad cop’. Meryl Streep further emphasised that she was grateful to have a partner who was always happy to look after the children when she had to travel for work. Streep added:
"Teamwork is everything. My husband Don was very involved. He was a little more relaxed when it comes to raising kids. I was more of a tiger mom."
