Metro… In Dino, the spiritual sequel to Anurag Basu’s iconic 2007 hit, Life In a… Metro has been making waves ever since it hit theatres on July 4, 2025.  With its hyperlink narrative, emotional storytelling, multi-city romances, and soulful music by Pritam, the film has struck a chord with audiences, especially fans of the original. Following its theatrical run, the makers confirmed that the movie will soon be available on OTT, a treat for those who missed it in cinemas or want to relive its heartfelt, emotional moments. Where and when can you stream Metro… In Dino?

The makers of Metro… In Dino have confirmed that the film will officially stream on Netflix, and the OTT giant has reportedly already acquired digital rights. While the official release date has not been confirmed yet, the film will be available for streaming after a 45-60 day window following its theatrical release. Sources suggest the film will land on the OTT platform somewhere between late August and early September 2025.

What is Metro… In Dino about?

Metro… In Dino continues Anurag Basu’s signature style of making hyperlink storytelling, weaving the lives of diverse couples, from young romantics and struggling spouses to mismatched pairs and even elderly flames. Similar to Life In A… Metro, the spiritual sequel is set against the backdrop of contemporary urban India, exploring the emotional complexities of four couples whose journeys intersect at pivotal moments.

Without any spoilers, let’s introduce you to the characters. Aditya Roy Kapur plays ‘Parth’, a commitment-phobic guy who unexpectedly falls in love with Sara Ali Khan’s character, ‘Thumri, aka Chumki’, despite her being engaged to someone else. Neena Gupta (‘Shivani’) and Anupam Kher (‘Parimal’) portray an elderly pair who cross paths after years, while Ali Fazal (‘Akash’) and Fatima Sana Shaikh (‘Shruti’) navigate the tension of an unplanned pregnancy. Meanwhile, Konkona Sen Sharma (‘Kajol’) and Pankaj Tripathi (‘Monty’) explore themes of infidelity and emotional distance within a stagnant marriage.

Konkona Sen Sharma brings back Irrfan Khan’s nostalgia

Interestingly, Metro… In Dino introduces an entirely new cast, except for Konkona Sen Sharma, the only actor returning from the original 2007 film. Director Anurag Basu shared in an interview with News18 Showsha that Konkona and Irrfan Khan were initially chosen to reprise their roles as ‘Shruti’ and ‘Monty’ in the sequel. However, following Irrfan’s tragic passing, Basu reshaped the script. He ultimately retained only Konkona, believing her character’s emotional depth and presence were essential to maintaining a strong connection to the spirit of the original.

What did viewers and critics say about Metro… In Dino?

From Day One, Metro… In Dino has received mostly positive reviews. Both viewers and critics have praised the ensemble cast, with standout performances across the board. While the absence of Irrfan Khan and the late singer KK was deeply felt, Pankaj Tripathi’s portrayal of ‘Monty’ won over many hearts with his quirky charm. Pritam’s soulful soundtrack also earned widespread acclaim for capturing the nostalgic essence of the original.
