Micromax Founder, Rahul Sharma Revealed How Akshay Kumar Played Cupid In His And Asin's Love Story

Asin Thottumkal got married to Rahul Sharma, the founder of Micromax, in 2016. While the actress has been out of the public eye, fans remain eager to know about her whereabouts. However, it appears that the actress is enjoying her private life, and it was her husband, Rahul, who provided fans with some insight into their love story back in 2024.

Akhsay Kumar played cupid in Asin and Rahul Sharma's love story

Asin and Rahul Sharma got married in a Christian and Hindu wedding ceremony in 2016. The couple soon welcomed their first child, a daughter named Arin, in October 2017. However, did you know who played the cupid in their love story? It was none other than the Khiladi, Akshay Kumar. It was during a podcast with Raj Shamani when Rahul opened up about how he met Asin and Akshay's involvement in brewing their love story.

In a conversation with Raj Shamani, Rahul Sharma opened up about his first meeting with Asin. He recalled how Akshay Kumar played the matchmaker and pushed them to get acquainted. During the chat, he revealed that he first met Asin in 2012 during an India-Pakistan match in Dhaka. He shared that Akshay wanted to promote his film, Housefull 2, and since Micromax was the sponsor of the Asia Cup, Rahul was able to arrange some tickets. He stated:

"We were going for an India vs Pakistan match (in 2012). Akshay's movie, Housefull 2, was coming up, and she was acting in it. And then Akshay said, 'There’s a movie coming. We want to promote the movie.' Since Micromax was the sponsor of Asia Cup, it was happening in Dhaka, Bangladesh. So if somebody asks me where you met your wife, I say the most romantic place on Earth – Dhaka."

In the same conversation, Rahul Sharma revealed that he and Asin didn't talk much during their initial meeting, only greeting each other. However, later Akshay told him that Asin was an extremely simple girl, much like Rahul himself. Akshay then provided brief details about Asin's background. He then shared her number with Rahul, and Rahul's number with Asin, and the rest was history. Rahul even called Akshay, setting them up his best contribution to their friendship. He was quoted as saying:

"Then Akshay said she's a girl who's very, very simple, down-to-earth, similar to you. She just comes, does her work, and goes back, very professional. Her mother is a doctor, and her father is in service, so that's fantastic. Then he gave her number to me and my number to her. He just felt there's so much common in us. We come from the same values and backgrounds."

What Akshay Kumar said about playing cupid in Asin and Rahul Sharma's love story

In 2016 during a conversation with Hindustan Times, Akshay Kumar admitted to playing matchmaker for Rahul Sharma and Asin. The actor revealed that he arranged for them to meet, and even Jacqueline was unknowingly a part of their story. He added that when they were in Delhi, he got Asin and Rahul to play hide and seek with them and intentionally made them hide in a cupboard together. He was quoted as saying:

"I've been hiding this for three-and-a-half to four years. Yes, I got them to meet, and Jacqueline (Fernandez) was also a part of it, but she didn't realise it because I played it very slyly. It was ­during Housefull 2, and we were in Delhi. Don't laugh, but we were ­playing hide and seek, and I made the two of them hide ­together in one ­cupboard. That is how it started, and it is so nice that they are getting ­married now."
