Mika Singh is a popular singer in the Hindi film industry. He has lent his voice to popular songs like Aaj Ki Raat, Subah Hone Na De, Dhinka Chika, Pushpa Pushpa, and more. Known for his impactful voice, the singer often makes headlines for his candid yet controversial comments. Once again, in a recent interview, the singer reopened one of the most controversial chapters of his life when he decided to visit Pakistan and perform at a private event in Karachi after the Uri attack in 2016. Mika's decision was not appreciated in India amid its tension with Pakistan, and he faced a temporary ban by the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE). Later, it was uplifted when the singer submitted a formal apology. Despite not talking much about it in recent years, Mika again revisited the controversy and shared his views on it.
Mika Singh recently sat down for a conversation with Shubhankar Mishra on his podcast, and shared his side of the story when he faced a temporary ban after he visited Pakistan. While talking about the ill effects of fame, the singer shared how people deliberately try to create controversy around a famous person. Referring to the alleged collaboration between Pakistani actress, Hania Aamir and Diljit, Mika shared that no one pointed fingers on them. At the same time, he mentioned singer, Honey Singh is also working with Pakistani singer, Atif Aslam, which no one is criticising. However, the moment he does something, he becomes a target of controversy. In his words:
“Ab Diljit ke movie mein koi Pakistani heroine arhi hai, pata nahi arhi hai ya nahi arhi hai, usme koi controversy nahi. Ispe bhi 2 kalakar hai. Kahin log great singer hai aur koi popular hota hai toh faraq padhta hai ki kispe maza ayega usko baat karke. Uske baad bhi Honey Singh Atif Aslam ke sath koi gaana kar raha hai. Agar main kuch karunga toh unko lagta hai ki haan yaar yahan se chingari uthegi.”
Mika Singh added that he travelled to Pakistan back in 2016 with a legal visa and performed at a wedding in Karachi. For those unaware, his visit came shortly after the deadly URI attack took place in 2016, leading to a nationwide outage. The singer explained that he would have paid taxes from his earnings in Pakistan to India. At the same time, Mika suggested that there should not be a ban on artists who visit the neighbouring countries for earning, and still, if the government bans working there he won't. However, he couldn't understand that if the government didn't say anything, then why did the people criticise him. Mika stated:
“Abhi Pakistan jaane ke liye ban nahi hona chahiye, abhi shows ke liye aapne kaha hai nahi hona chahiye, thik hai, nahi karenge aage se. Par iske liye govt kuch nahi keh rahe hai. Toh ye kaunsi janta suddenly tum pe tha tha thok dete, ye nahi samajh aata. Main sabka favourite hoon. Sab keh rahe hamare taraf dhyan do bhai. Phir main deta hoon, phir kehte hai thik hai."
The ban on Pakistani artists after the Uri and Pulwama attack got a little loose in recent years. Consequently, Indian singers and filmmakers again began to work with Pakistani artists as reports about Hania Aamir and Diljit's collab made headlines, and Pakistani actor, Fawad Khan's new Indian film, Abir Gulaal, was set to release on May 9, 2025, in India. However, the recent attack in Pahalgam has reinforced the firmness of the ban on Pakistani artists. Several film organisations have clearly announced that Pakistani actors can't work on Indian projects. As a result, the release of Abir Gulaal seems uncertain, and Hania's collaboration has reportedly stalled.
Indian authorities have implemented a five-point action plan against Pakistan after terrorists killed 26 innocent Indians who visited Pahalgam. Under the new plan, it suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, revoked Pakistani nationals' visas, shut down the Attari land transit, closed its airspace to Pakistani airlines, and placed a ban on the Social media handles of Pakistani actors. As a result, the Instagram profiles of Fawad Khan, Atif Aslam, Hania Aamir, Mahira Khan, Sajal Aly and more are not accessible in India.
