Mika Singh Reveals How He Took False Name Of Javed Akhtar For His Song, 'Saawan Mein Lag Gayi'

Mika Singh's name will resonate with every 90's kid. He got overnight fame with his song, Saawan Mein Lag Gayi Aag, which resonated with every music lover. After this song, he created chartbuster hits. However, do you know that Mika had unknowingly associated Javed Akhtar with the song?

Mika Singh reveals wanting respect and using Javed Akhtar's name

During an interview with Lallantop, Mika revealed that he had always been a big fan of Javed Akhtar. He thought that if he used Javed Sahab's name and revealed to the world that the legendary writer had penned the lyrics of the song, then he would get a lot of respect. Mika also revealed that he would like to pretend that AR Rahman had helped with the musical score instead of saying that Mika had only composed and penned the song's lyrics. In Mika's words:

"When I made the song, I would ask everyone if they liked it. They would ask me who wrote it, and I knew that if I said I’d written it, they wouldn’t take the song seriously. So, I would tell people that Javed Akhtar helped write it, and that AR Rahman helped with the music.”

When Mika Singh pulled Javed Akhtar's ears to get his attention

Mika wanted Javed's attention as the legendary writer had never noticed the Punjabi singer. At an awards function, Mika had once jumped on the table, and pulled Javed's ear. His head had twisted backwards, he touched Javed's feet and told him that he had been a great fan. In words of Mika:

'‘I really want him to notice me and praise my work, but he always ignores me at first. Then he waves at me, but from a distance. I love Javed saab. I met him a few times at some shows. I have always been a little ill-mannered. He wouldn’t pay any attention to me. This was just after ‘Ganpat’ had come out. We were at an awards function, and I was supposed to enter in a grand fashion. I thought that Javed saab would definitely notice me, but he didn’t.”

Mika Singh recalls telling AR Rahman that the Oscar-winning music composer would work with the Punjabi singer

Mika, in the same interview, remembered another incident where he had met AR Rahman. Mika confessed that his English was weak and he was very nervous about talking to Rahman at the show. Mika wanted to say, "One day I hope to work with you" but ended up saying, "One day you will work with me". Rahman was shocked by Mika's words, which could have been misinterpreted as rude.

When Mika Singh revealed crooning Saawan Mein Lag Gayi Aag in a nasal tone

In an earlier interview with the Screen, the singer revealed that his song,Saawan Mein Lag Gayi Aag had become a hit in 1998 when it was released. However, at that time he wanted to be a music director and not a singer. That is why he didn’t pay a lot of attention to his singing in the song. In Mika's words:

"It didn’t matter to me that the song had a nasal tone."
