Mohammed Shami has been a star on the field, earning immense love and respect from cricket enthusiasts for his contributions to the sport. However, for years, there has been a looming shadow of accusation over his life, which keeps resurfacing every once in a while. In 2014, Shami tied the knot with Hasin Jahan; in 2018, the cricketer was accused of domestic violence, adultery and dowry harassment by his wife, which affected not only his image but his cricket career as well. Now, seven years later, he is faced with yet another setback as the Calcutta High Court orders him to pay a hefty amount to Hasin every month.
The Calcutta High Court has ordered Indian pacer, Mohammed Shami, to pay Rs. 4 lakh to his estranged wife, Hasin Jahan, and their daughter, Aaira Shami. It was on July 1, 2025, when a bench, including Justice Ajoy Kumar Mukherjee, passed an order on a plea filed by Hasin Jahan. The ruling directed the Indian bowler to pay Rs. 1.5 lakh to his wife and Rs. 2.5 lakh to their daughter every month. The court's statement could be read as:
"In my considered opinion, a sum of Rs. 1,50,000 per month to the petitioner no.1 (wife) and Rs. 2,50,000 to her daughter would be just fair and reasonable to ensure financial stability for both the petitioners…"
In a further statement, the High Court clarified that Mohammed Shami is free to voluntarily contribute to his daughter, Aaira Shami's, education or any other expenses beyond those specified in their ruling. The High Court has ruled against a decision made by the District Sessions Court.
The Calcutta High Court was approached by Hasin Jahan after she felt dissatisfied with the ruling of the district sessions court. For the unversed, the sessions court had directed Shami to pay Rs. 50,000 to his wife and Rs. 80,000 to her daughter in 2023. Hasin had originally asked for a compensation of Rs. 7 lakh per month for herself and Rs. 3 lakh monthly for their daughter, Aaira Shami, before the court.
Hasin Jahan used to work as a model and cheerleader for the Kolkata Knight Riders before marrying Shami in 2014. The couple welcomed their daughter, Aaira Shami, in 2015. However, things took an ugly turn in 2018, after Hasin accused Shami of domestic violence, dowry harassment and match-fixing. She claimed that the pacer had received money from a Pakistani woman and also alleged that her husband stopped payment to her to run her family expenses. Post these allegations, Shami's central contract was put on hold by the BCCI.

The board cleared Mohammed Shami's name of match-fixing allegations following an investigation. However, the court had issued an arrest warrant against him in 2019 for domestic violence, giving him 15 days to return to India and turn himself in. The warrant was stayed by the district court soon after because the court failed to issue a summons to appear in the court.
What are your thoughts on Mohammed Shami being ordered to pay such hefty monthly payments?
