Sanya Malhotra's film, Mrs., has been hitting the right people with its right message. The movie's only motive was to share a side of women and how they are forced to keep themselves last while fitting themselves into the patriarchal system. However, it has left the internet and the nation divided as men think it has been portraying them in a negative light. While everyone is talking about how 'not all men' are the same, women know deep down that they have faced the same, if not worse but a taste of patriarchy. In the midst of it, SIFF tweets further ignited the situation, as they wanted a boycott of the film.
Till our last generation, women were not allowed to work; they were the last ones to eat after working tirelessly in the kitchen, taking care of the kids and the elders and having no offs, not even on a festival. It took women a lot of hard work, and parents struggled to make sure that their daughters would have a voice of their own after marriage. While the situation has changed favourably for women in metropolitan states, more than half of Indian women still face the same patriarchy and oppression.
On top of it, the Save Indian Family Foundation's tweet added more drama to the burning fire, as they demanded a boycott of Sanya Malhotra's film as it is promoting toxic feminism. The organisation, in their tweet, proudly revealed how men work 8-9 hours at factories, courtrooms, construction sites, restaurants and the nation's border. On the other hand, a young woman feels oppressed by cooking food, doing dishes, and pressing on the clothes of her father-in-law.
Not only this, in another tweet, they questioned what stress a woman goes through while chopping vegetables and cooking food on a gas stove. The foundation called it highly meditative. They even pointed out how pressing clothes and washing laundry in a washing machine can be stressful.

When a foundation named after 'Save Indian Family' tweets something like this against a female-led movie, which is just expressing a side of a woman's life, it is thought-provoking. When men come home, they are treated with all the work done and food cooked, and they can relax while having no worries about their children's homework or other housework. But when a woman, after work, comes home (in order to contribute to the family's income and education of the kids), she has another shift to complete, which is taking care of the family.
The debate on this topic is unjustified. It is just a film, giving a highlight to the situation of countless women. Also, let us remind you that when films like Animal and Kabir Singh smash box office records, they are celebrated by people across the nation. When someone points their opinion against it, they are hushed by stating, 'It's just an entertainment film'.
Sanya Malhotra's character, 'Richa', is a young girl who is a skilled dancer in the movie, Mrs. At the start of the film, she looks happy to embark on an adventure with her husband, Diwakar, who is a gynaecologist. While he works in a modern scenario, he is an orthodox man.
What do you think about the Mrs. movie, and the unnecessary fire it has ignited by the male society?
