Mrs. was premiered on Zee5 on February 7, 2025, which was also the first day of Valentine's Week. The film was absolutely spot on for the occasion of 'Rose Day'. While it showcased the beautiful side of arranged marriage and how things look beautiful in the beginning, it also showcased the uncomfortable reality of so many Indian women who are living in a house full of thorns. Arati Kadav directed Zee5's Mrs., and it is the official remake of the iconic Malayalam film, The Great Indian Kitchen, which was directed by Jeo Baby back in 2021.
In a conversation with the Hindustan Times, Mrs.'s director, Arati Kadav, revealed why she decided to remake Jeo Baby's iconic film, The Great Indian Kitchen. The filmmaker revealed that she believes North India needs to see this film because it is also very relevant to them. However, she also added that her mother wanted to see The Great Indian Kitchen but couldn't watch it because she doesn't know Malayalam and is not used to subtitles. Hence, as a result, she made Mrs. for her mother so that she could watch this iconic story. She said:
"I felt that this story needs to be set in North India and reach a larger audience. This film is so relevant for North India. I felt they needed to see it."
The film has impressed the critics with its storyline and is also breaking records. For the uninitiated, Arati Kadav's Mrs. registered the biggest opening on Zee5 and became the most searched film on Google. Talking about the cast, Mrs. features Sanya Malhotra, Nishant Dahiya, Kanwaljit Singh, Aparna Ghoshal, and Mrinal Kulkarni in key roles. The actress is greatly appreciated for her acting skills and how she acted in complex scenes. However, amidst all the love that Sanya is getting on social media, what's interesting is that Nishant Dahiya is receiving double the amount of hate.
Nishant Dahiya played the character of Sanya Malhotra's husband, 'Diwakar Kumar' in Zee5's Mrs. The 34-year-old handsome actor performed the character of a patriarchal and emotionally abusive husband so well that people are finding it hard to stop themselves from hating him. Although he is receiving a lot of hate from people and he has joined the list of toxic male characters in Indian cinema, but it is clear that he has proved the mettle of his acting prowess in the film.
In a conversation with Mid-Day, Nishant Dahiya revealed that he knew he would receive a lot of hate for playing 'Diwakar Kumar' in Mrs. The actor revealed that he had watched Jeo Baby's The Great Indian Kitchen and hated the husband's character. As a result, when the same role was offered to him, he was quite scared to do the role because he didn't want people to hate him. The actor also revealed that he played a small negative role in Kedarnath, and people abused him on social media. He admitted that he used to get affected by hate comments, but he has now started dealing with them. He said:

"I had seen The Great Indian Kitchen [2021] before and loved the [story] and hated the husband's character. So, when Mrs was offered to me, my first reaction was, 'I don't want to be this person.' I didn't want people hating me. After Kedarnath [2018], people abused me on social media. The smallest of things affect me. One [negative] comment also affects me a lot. But I am trying to work on that."
According to IMDb, Nishant Dahiya was born on January 4, 1991, in Madhya Pradesh's Mhow. While his father, Rajendra Singh, served in the Indian Army, his mother is a homemaker. After completing his schooling in different cities due to his father's transfer, Nishant pursued his B.Tech degree in computer science and engineering from Kurukshetra, Haryana. After graduation, Nishant auditioned for Grasim Mr. India (2006) and finished as the first runner-up. Soon, he shifted to Mumbai and worked on a series of modelling assignments.
Yash Raj Films spotted him at an event and signed him for their film, Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge (2011). In the following years, he appeared in films like Titoo MBA, Meri Pyaari Bindu, Kedarnath, Raat Akeli Hain, 83, and Akelli. With the massive success of his recently-released film, Mrs., Nishant continues to make his mark in Bollywood, and it will be interesting to see where he goes from here.
