Jigra, the 2024 action thriller starring Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina, underperformed at the box office. For the unversed, Jigra was released on October 11, 2025. Alia Bhatt, the protagonist of the action thriller, faced an unexpected setback due to the film’s underperformance. However, the film sparked controversy when actor-filmmaker, Divya Khosla accused the makers of copying her movie, Savi. Now, Alia Bhatt’s uncle, Mukesh Bhatt, has reacted to the controversy.
In a recent conversation with Lehren Retro, Mukesh Bhatt reacted to the Savi-Jigra controversy. He called Divya Khosla’s accusation a 'publicity stunt'. For the unversed, Savi, the 2024 action thriller starring Divya Khosla, Anil Kapoor and Harshvardhan Rane, was co-produced by Mukesh Bhatt. Mukesh shared that Divya’s claims were just to grab the media’s attention. Dismissing that Jigra was a copy of Divya Khosla’s film, Savi, Mukesh highlighted that Alia’s film actually drew inspiration from Mukesh Bhatt’s film, Gumrah. In fact, 1993 itself was influenced by Bangkok Hilton. He was quoted as saying:
"What Divya did for publicity, I don’t know about that. To get some attention in the media, you can create some controversy. Everyone needs publicity, and for publicity, you need some controversy."

In the same conversation, Mukesh strongly defended Bollywood actress, Alia Bhatt. He called her a 'major star'. He explained how a controversy gets sparked. He then mentioned that Alia isn’t someone who would copy someone else’s ideas as she is more intelligent. He was quoted as saying:
"Alia Bhatt is a major star. When you drag a bigger name into something, a controversy is bound to spark. But Alia isn’t someone who needs to steal ideas. She’s intelligent, sorted, and grounded. She would never stoop to such a level. I can vouch for that. Alia is too big for this. Usko yeh chichori harkat karne ki zarurat nahi hai."

Divya Khosla claimed that Alia Bhatt’s action thriller, Jigra, has copied the plotline of her film, Savi. She highlighted that the jailbreak sequence in Jigra closely resembles Savi’s concept. She also alleged that the makers of Jigra faked the box office numbers by sharing a snap of an empty theatre.

For the unversed, Savi, the action thriller starring Divya Khosla, was inspired by the epic tale of Savitri and Satyavan and follows 'Savitri Sachdeva', a housewife who struggles to free her husband, 'Nakul Sachdeva', from a high-security foreign jail. While Alia’s Jigra narrates the tale of a sister and brother, where 'Satya' struggles to rescue her brother, 'Ankur', from a high-security foreign jail, who has been wrongly accused of a crime.
