After Exiting 'The Traitors', Mukesh Chhabra Talks About His Real-Life Traitor, 'Felt Like A Stab..'

Renowned casting director and filmmaker, Mukesh Chhabra, was one of the contestants in Karan Johar’s latest reality hit, The Traitors, streaming on Amazon Prime, but he recently got eliminated from the show. However, exiting the show couldn’t possibly have hurt as much as it did the time he got betrayed in real life. The filmmaker, who has been behind the casting of some of Bollywood’s biggest blockbusters, such as Gangs of Wasseypur, Chhichhore, and Dangal, recently opened up about the time he felt stabbed in the back by a ‘real traitor’.

Mukesh Chhabra talks about his biggest lesson from The Traitors

In a candid chat with ETimes, Mukesh Chhabra opened up about the biggest learning from The Traitors, admitting that his experience in the show felt like a reflection of his real-life experience, and not in a pleasant way. The filmmaker shared:

“One of my biggest learnings from the show is that you really can’t trust anyone, not even the people you eat, sit, or roam around with. You never know who’s actually betraying you or who the real traitor is.”

Mukesh Chhabra’s shocking confession about a real-life betrayal

Reflecting on his realisation from the show, Mukesh recalled a painful incident during the making of Dil Bechara, the final film of the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, which was released posthumously. Even though it has been five years since the incident, it still hurts him the same. Speaking about his former assistant’s betrayal, the filmmaker shared:

“One instance that really hurt was during Dil Bechara. I had entrusted one of my casting assistants to look after my company while I was away making the film. When I returned, I found he had taken away all my data and secretly opened his own casting company. I was shocked. I had literally groomed that child in front of me. It felt like a stab in the back.”

Will Mukesh Chhabra return to The Traitors?

Despite getting eliminated from The Traitors, Mukesh remains optimistic about the game show. Further in the interview, when asked whether he would like to return to The Traitors in case there was a wildcard entry, the filmmaker shared that despite his initial hurt after the show, he now has a better understanding of the game, and he would love to again if he ever gets a chance. He was quoted as saying:

“I felt very, very, very bad. You know how you feel bad after losing even simple games at home… it still hurts. So yes, for a couple of days I was quite upset. But then I convinced myself, it’s just a game. Still, when you’re betrayed, even in a game, it stings… I was really affected, but I came to terms with it eventually… And this time, I know exactly how to play. I’ve figured out the format and the mindset you need.”
