One of the most successful actresses of all time, Mumtaz needs no introduction. From being born in a slum to making her acting debut in Hindi cinema at the age of 11 and becoming a sex symbol in the 1970s, Mumtaz was one of the highest-paid actresses of her era. The bold and beautiful actress had worked with iconic actors like Rajesh Khanna, Dev Anand, Feroz Khan, Dara Singh, Shammi Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, and the list goes on.

Some of Mumtaz’s best movies are Do Raaste, Ram Aur Shyam, Khilona, Aap Ki Kasam, Sachaa Jhutha, Brahmachari, Patthar Ke Sanam, Suraj, Loafer, Dushmun, and many more. While the actress’ illustrious acting career in Hindi cinema needs no introduction, her pairing with Rajesh Khanna needs a separate mention. There was a time when Rajesh Khanna and Mumtaz’s pair was enough to make cinema halls houseful. The two celebrities were not just breathtaking on the big screen but were also close friends who always stood up for one another.

Mumtaz and Rajesh Khanna’s pair was unlike any other on-screen pair of that generation, which also often fueled their relationship rumours. While their fans always wanted to see them together in real life, the two always preferred to remain friends, despite having such a mesmerising camaraderie. However, when Mumtaz decided to marry Ugandan businessman, Mayur Madhvani, reports were rife that Rajesh Khanna had cried inconsolably.
There were speculations that Rajesh was hurt by Mumtaz’s decision to leave Hindi cinema and India to settle in London with her husband. Neither Rajesh Khanna nor Mumtaz had addressed those reports back then. However, decades later, in an interview with Pinkvilla, the evergreen diva talked about the same and revealed if the reports of Rajesh Khanna crying after hearing about her marriage were true. Reflecting on the same, Mumtaz admitted that people close to Kaka told her that he was extremely sad after she got married to Mayur Madhvani. She said:

"People say so though I wasn’t here. Kaka was too proud a man to say it on my face. But people close to him told me that when I got married and left India, Kaka said, “I have lost my right hand!” Apparently, he missed me a lot because we clicked so well and made such a great pair."
Further, in the same interview, when Mumtaz was asked about her reaction to her favourite co-star, Rajesh Khanna’s demise. Opening up about the same, the actress admitted that she was deeply saddened knowing about his death. The actress also added that Rajesh Khanna’s family took good care of him, and whenever she watches his work on television, she misses him so badly. She said:
"The family looked after Kaka extremely well. Even I miss him. When I happen to watch him on TV, I wonder kyun itni jaldi chale gaye."

According to a report in the Hindustan Times, Mumtaz had once opened up about Rajesh Khanna’s sudden marriage with iconic actress, Dimple Kapadia. Sharing her views on the same, the evergreen actress admitted that it was a huge shocker for her, as she had always thought that Rajesh would tie the knot with Anju Mahendroo. Mumtaz said:
"Rajesh Khanna had a steady woman in his life, Anju Mahendroo for 10 years. We all thought he would marry her but one fine morning he announced that he’s marrying Dimpy (Dimple Kapadia) and shocked everybody."
For the unversed, Mumtaz and her husband, Mayur Madhvani are blessed with two daughters, Tanya and Natasha.
