My Life With the Walter Boys returned on Netflix with its much-awaited season 2 after more than a year and a half. The teen drama returned with more small-town drama, family bonds, and of course, tangled romances. The show is adapted from Ali Novak’s Wattpad novel.
It follows ‘Jackie Howard,’ played by Nikki Rodriguez, as she adjusts to life with the large Walter family after losing her parents. At its heart, season 2 is once again about ‘Jackie’s’ struggle to choose between ‘Alex’, played by Ashby Gentry and ‘Cole’, played by Noah LaLonde. But does it manage to rise above cliches? Here’s what fans and critics have to say.
Season 2 of My Life With the Walter Boys sticks closely to the same storyline, with ‘Jackie’ still caught between ‘Alex’ and ‘Cole’ as she avoids having honest conversations about her feelings. Instead of pushing the story forward, the season adds more love triangles involving other characters, most of which feel very similar. While the romantic drama might appeal to younger viewers, it starts to feel repetitive and predictable for older audiences. Some emotional moments still land, but the show risks losing depth by recycling the same conflicts over and over again.
The show hints at richer, more emotional themes such as ‘Jackie’s’ grief over her parents and her cultural heritage, but it never explores them in depth. Moments of vulnerability are quickly patched over with pep talks, leaving little to no space for real moments of vulnerability. These missed opportunities make the season feel shallow, particularly when compared to other teen dramas that take more risks with sensitive topics and offer better storylines to the audience.
Sarah Rafferty’s performance as ‘Katherine’ is a standout highlight for the show. Her warm and supportive presence grounds the story, providing 'Jackie' with a much-needed safe space. ‘Katherine’s’ scenes feel authentic and heartwarming, even when the resolutions come too easily. She adds a layer of maturity and balance to the otherwise drama-heavy narrative, making her character one of the most beloved in the series.

Despite its flaws, My Life With the Walter Boys delivers plenty of cosy fall vibes. The small-town setting, family gatherings, and quirky community moments evoke a sense of nostalgia for shows like Gilmore Girls and The Fosters. For preteens and younger teens, the lighthearted drama offers a safe and comforting alternative to more mature young adult shows, such as Ginny & Georgia or The Summer I Turned Pretty.
While season 2 of My Life With the Walter Boys narrows its focus compared to season 1, much of the character development feels stagnant. ‘Cole’s’ storyline as a high school assistant coach adds a refreshing twist, but at times it stretches believability. ‘Alex’s’ newfound confidence also shifts the dynamic, but the constant recycling of romantic conflicts undermines any real sense of progress in the storyline. Audiences are left wanting more variety and resolution, but never get it.
Fans of the series were excited to return to Silver Falls, but reactions to Season 2 have been mixed. Younger viewers have praised the wholesome vibes and relatable crush drama, while older fans and critics note the lack of closure and overuse of love triangles. Many agree it’s a cosy watch, but not one that leaves a lasting impression. A user on X commented, "Just finished my life with the walter boys. Solid 5/10 didn't really get the buzz. I'm not invested." However another one wrote "Season 2 of MLWTWB (My Life with the Walter Boys) you did not disappoint!"
Season 2 of Netflix's My Life with the Walter Boys offers sweet, wholesome fun wrapped in a familiar teen drama package. While it succeeds in providing a comforting watch with strong family dynamics and nostalgic charm, its repetitive storylines and refusal to deliver meaningful closure hold it back. It may not stand out in Netflix’s teen drama catalogue, but it’s a pleasant enough stop for anyone seeking a lighthearted binge.
