Nancy Guthrie's Kidnapping: A California Man Was Arrested, Police Believe She's 'Still Out There'

Famous journalist and Today Show's host, Savannah Guthrie's mom, Nancy Guthrie has been abducted or kidnapped, as believed by the authorities, since she has been missing. She was last spotted on January 31, 2026, at her home, and the investigation is still ongoing. While no trace of Nancy Guthrie was found, a ransom note was found, demanding a million dollars in Bitcoin.

Following this, Nancy Guthrie's kids, Savannah, Annie and Camron released a video, wherein they asked the abductor who sent the ransom note to contact them with proof that Nancy is safe and sound, and alive. Amid this, a person has been arrested in connection with it. Let's have a look at what exactly happened!

Recently, a report on USA Today revealed that a Southern California man was arrested in connection with Nancy Guthrie's arrest. If the report is to be believed, the arrested man, whose name is Derrik Callella, was arrested in Hawthorne, California. According to reports, Callella faced two federal charges, one being transforming communication, containing a demand for ransom for the release of a kidnapped person, and also making a call without revealing his identity, with the intent to harass, abuse and harass a person.

Police believe that Savannah Guthrie's mom, Nancy Guthrie is still out there

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos revealed to BBC that Savannah Guthrie's mom, Nancy Guthrie is still alive, while adding that they will continue to believe that only along with the investigation line. On the other hand, two ransom notes were received, and a person has recently been arrested for the same. The first ransom letter was provided to TMZ, who converted it to Law Enforcement.

The family was also informed about the same. Following this, Savannah, Annie and Camron released a video, wherein they added that the alleged abductor should contact them, as in today's world, photos and videos could be easily manipulated, and thus, they need to ensure that their mother was with that person and safe. To mention, the ransom note was possibly from someone who had the intention to harass the family, and seemingly not the one who was actually behind the kidnapping or abduction. Savannah, in the same video, revealed that her mom was not doing well healthwise, as her heart is fragile and she needs to be on medication. As Nancy has been without medication for several days now, Savannah expressed her worry about her mom's well-being.

Annie Guthrie was the last person to see her mom, Nancy, after the family dinner on January 31, 2026. It was not till 11 in the morning of the next day that the family had any idea about Nancy's disappearance. Following this, a missing report was filed, and the investigation began. As per the authorities, Nancy was kidnapped or abducted against her will when she was asleep.
