The attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan had shocked the film industry. On January 16, 2025, an illegal intruder entered his home and blackmailed Saif and his family for money. He later ended up stabbing the actor, who was immediately hospitalised. However, police took swift action and arrested a key accused, Shariful Islam, three days later. But fans have still been waiting to know whether he has been confirmed as the person who entered Saif's residence. Recently, an important procedure conducted by the police has helped them secure major evidence against him.
After several days of waiting, Mumbai Police has made a major breakthrough in the case regarding the attack on Saif Ali Khan. As per the police sources, the nannies present in Saif Ali Khan's home when the incident took place have identified the accused, Shariful Islam, as the intruder who illegally entered his home in a Test Identification Parade on February 5, 2025. It has helped the police strengthen their case against Shariful Islam.
For those unaware, the nannies who take care of Saif's kids, Taimur and Jeh, were present when Shariful allegedly entered the actor's residence, demanded money, and stabbed him. One of them, Eliyama Philip, who reportedly sustained some injuries along with another nanny, went for the identification procedure to Arthur Road Jail. It took place in the presence of a tehsildar and five independent panchas. During the process, Shariful was made to stand to nine more people with similar looks, and amongst them, the nannies identified him.
When police began to investigate the attack on Saif Ali Khan, they released a CCTV image of the intruder, who was spotted leaving his residence. Later, on January 31, 2025, ANI reported that a facial recognition Test from the forensic lab confirmed that Shariful was the same person seen in the CCTV Footage from the actor's residence. However, his lawyer, Sandeep Shekhane argued that 'no proper investigation' was conducted. Moreover, refusing the claims of improper investigation, Additional Commissioner of Police Paramjit Singh Dahiya said:
"Whenever an accusation is arrested, multiple pieces of evidence are collected against it. We have found much oral, physical, and technical evidence against the accused... We have caught the right person."
As per the incident narrated to the Police, Eliyama Philip was the person who spotted an intruder in Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor's younger son, Jeh's washroom on the night of the incident. He was equipped with a knife and stick and demanded Rs. 1 crore. Later, he broke into a scuffle with her, and the other nanny screamed and called for help when Saif arrived and dealt with him. The doctors at Lilavati Hospital reported that Saif Ali Khan was stabbed 6 times, and Shariful Islam later fled from the scene.
