Naseeruddin Shah took to his Facebook account and shared a post in support of Diljit Dosanjh after the actor-singer was slammed for working with Pakistani actress, Hania Aamir despite the tension between the two nations. However, the post disappeared soon after, and netizens assumed that the veteran actor had deleted it. Now, days later, Naseeruddin has reacted to the same and revealed that he had not deleted the post, but the social media platform took it down.
Naseeruddin Shah sat for a candid conversation with The Indian Express and clarified that he had not deleted his post. The actor revealed that it was taken down by the social media platform, Facebook. He shared that if it was to be taken as a justification, then so be it, but he doesn't need to justify himself. He added that he said what he said, and he stands by it. He was quoted as saying:
"If this is taken to be a justification of my Facebook post (which has been taken down, not deleted by me) in support of Diljit Dosanjh, so be it. But the fact is I need to justify nothing. I said whatever I had to say and I stand by it. Nor am I discouraged by the lack of support from the film industry. I wasn’t expecting any — they all either have too much to lose or they disagree."
In the same conversation, Naseeruddin Shah addressed his trolls who told him that it was 'Kabristaan' and not Pakistan. He quoted the well-known poet, Jigar Moradabadi and asked the trolls not to threaten him in anger. He added that they could let the lightning strike, but his next nest was his domain. He was quoted as saying:
"And to the trolls, particularly the one who said to me 'Pakistan nahin ab kabristaan', I can only quote Jigar Moradabadi: 'Mujhe de na ghaiz mein dhamkiyaan, giren lakh baar ye bijliyan, Meri saltanat yehi aashiyaan, meri milkiyat yehi chaar par.'"
It was on June 30, 2025, when Naseeruddin took to his Facebook account and shared a post stating that he firmly stands by Diljit Dosanjh. The actor called out the trolls for playing dirty tricks on Diljit and stated that he was not responsible for who was cast in the film. However, Diljit was being targeted because he was a far more famous icon than the actual mind behind the decision, the film's director. He added:
"No one knows who he is, whereas Diljit is known the world over, and he agreed to the cast because his mind is not poisoned. What these goons want is to put an end to personal interaction between the people of India and Pakistan. I have close relatives and some dear friends there and no one can stop me from meeting them or sending them love whenever i feel like it. And my response to those who will say 'Go to Pakistan' is 'GO TO KAILASA.'"
The attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, in April 2025 left India and Pakistan's relationship bitter. The incident, which took 26 innocent lives, resulted in several projects, including Pakistani actors, being shelved. Amidst that, Diljit Dosanjh's film, Sardaar Ji 3, was released. However, the actor received massive backlash for doing the film, despite it featuring Pakistani actress, Hania Aamir. The casting of the actress, despite the tension between the two nations, led to massive outrage among netizens and extreme trolling of Diljit and the film's makers for retaining Hania after what happened.
