Naseeruddin Shah's name crosses our minds when we think of a few great actors in Bollywood. He is such an actor, who had played unconventional roles in his career and yet had managed to achieve huge stardom, respect and success. However, the actor lost his heart to iconic actress, Ratna Pathak Shah, and after dating for a long time, the lovebirds had tied the knot on April 1, 1982. Together they had two adorable children, Imaan Shah and Vivaan Shah.
As both of his parents are considered gems of theatre and Bollywood, Vivaan Shah had been through the pressure of maintaining his parents’ legacy. In an interview, he shared his views on getting compared with his father. Vivaan had started his career by taking smaller roles in multi-starrer movies such as 7 Khoon Maaf (2011), Happy New Year (2014) and Bombay Velvet (2015). Now, the 32-year-old opened up about his wrong career decisions and revealed that he regrets not listening to his parents and chasing overnight stardom and success.

While looking back, Vivaan Shah realised that he had made the wrong decisions in his career's initial phase. He recalled chasing stardom and not listening to his parents' advice. In an interview with the Hindustan Times, acknowledging the slow growth of his career ever since his debut, Vivaan shared a piece of advice to all aspiring actors. He said:
"If I were to give a piece of advice to any actor who is facing a similar predicament as my own, I would say that look at my case. I made the mistake in my career very early on chasing after stardom and success. I started off in this business thinking I am here to be a star. Somewhere along the way I realised that no I am an actor and that is a very important thing."
Further in the conversation, Vivaan disclosed that his peers and friends were influencing him with the wrong ideas. Whereas his parents, Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak Shah had told him not to listen to what other people were saying, but unfortunately, he did. Calling himself 'immature' and 'stupid' Vivaan recalled:

"I wish I had listened to their advice. They never bought into this business of stardom and that you have to be certain way and this constitutes success and this does not constitute success. Now the problem is that the time when I started in 2010 was a very different climate in the industry. My peers and my friends were filling my head with all kinds of idiotic advice that I must be like this to be a star or leading man. My parents told me not to listen to the bullsh**t. But I as a young, stupid and immature person did not listen to them. Hence rather than trying to evolve as an actor and do projects where I could prove myself as an actor, I had the greed to become a successful star and leading man. Ultimately that has been to my detriment. I wish that I had followed my parents' advice."

Earlier, in an interview with India Today, Vivaan was asked how he reacts when people compare him with his father and legendary actor, Naseeruddin Shah. To which, the doting son had referred it as a 'healthy comparison'. Further, calling it an honour, he had said:
"I would love to be spoken of in the same breath as him. It's an honour. As far as comparisons are concerned, I suppose there are subconscious comparisons that everybody sort of makes. People can't help but make it. The comparisons that occur are all healthy comparisons. It's never been like Oh, you are a fraction of what your father is."
On the professional front, Vivaan Shah was last seen in his web series, Sutliyan.
