Nawazuddin Siddiqui is one of the most talented and versatile actors in Bollywood. He has portrayed various positive to negative and grey characters with equal conviction on-screen. Despite his success, the actor has often been criticised on his looks and appearance, making him believe he is ugly. He recently sat down for an interview with News18 Showsha and shared his views on the constant criticism that comes his way on his looks.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui has proved his acting capabilities with each of his performances over the years. But his looks have constantly drawn attention. The actor revealed that he has often been told that he is unattractive to such a large extent that he has started to believe it. As a result, he often looks into the mirror, questioning why he became a part of the Hindi film industry. He was quoted as saying:
“Pata nahi shakalo se humari nafrat kyun hai kuch logon ko. Kyunki shakal hee aisi hai – itne badsurat hai humlog. Humein bhi lagta hai jab apne aap ko aaine mein dekhte hai. Hum bhi bolte hai apne aap ko ‘kyun aa gaye film industry mein itne gande shakal leke? Main toh yeh maanta hoon. Kyun ki main shuru se yeh sab sunte aa raha hoon aur abhi maanne bhi laga hoon.”

Nawazuddin Siddiqui has been affected by the constant criticism on his looks. But he holds no qualms against Bollywood. The actor feels grateful to all the directors who allowed him to portray different characters. The Kick actor added that the film industry will give a complete due if you have talent. He feels that although there is discrimination in society, it is not in the Hindi film Industry. In his words:
“Film industry say mujhe koi shikayat nahi hai. I want to thank all the directors who have given me a variety of characters. Agar aapke andar thora saa bhi talent hai toh industry bahut kuch deti hai. Society mein discrimination hai, industry mein nahi."
One of the most talked about and career-defining movies for Nawazuddin Siddiqui has been Anurag Kashyap's Gangs of Wasseypur. Nawazuddin shared how he continues to receive love and appreciation for it several years after its release. Many people came to him saying they watched it 25-30 times, and he didn't believe them. Nawazuddin revealed that he hadn't realised the impact created by the film for three to four years and later began to believe in it.

On the work front, Nawazuddin Siddiqui was seen in Haddi and a Telugu film. He is currently seen in the film, Rautu Ka Raaz, released on June 28, 2024. The actor will next be seen in Oil Kumar, Adbhut and Noorani Chehra.
