Bumping into your ex or someone you had a crush on can be really tricky. It can either make the situation awkward or you can restart a new friendship. Our Bollywood celebrities have taught us how to keep it graceful when we meet our ex or crush after years. Govinda and Neelam Kothari had met on the sets of Super Dancer 4 for the shoot of an upcoming episode and made it to the headlines. Now, Neelam has shared her first reaction on meeting Govinda after decades.
Neelam and Govinda had worked in 14 films together and in real life, he was head-over-heels-in-love with her. It had started with IIzaam in 1986 as Neelam and Govinda’s chemistry was loved by all in the film and had started a great friendship between them. However, it was Govinda, who had fallen in love with her as he was smitten by Neelam's beauty, when he had first seen her. Govinda knew that they were complete opposites as Neelam was a foreign return, and he was a desi munda. Their love had never taken off as Govinda was already committed to his wife, Sunita and Neelam wanted to focus on her career. Gradually, Govinda and Neelam's relationship became a piece of history.
Govinda and Neelam had met after three decades on the sets of Super Dancer 4, making headlines. Now, in a conversation with The Times Of India, Neelam shared her first reaction on meeting Govinda after decades. She said, "There was no reaction. He came when I was in the middle of rehearsals. When you shoot for such shows, you just go there, exchange pleasantries and start shooting. But I must tell you that dancing to 'Aapke Aa Jaane Se' from 'Khudgarz' was phenomenal."
Neelam also shared bumping into Govinda once or twice at parties earlier, and said, “Govinda and I met after a very long time. We did many films together but I really didn't know that we were so popular as a jodi. We haven't kept in touch per se, but sometimes bumped into each other at a party or two. We don't have common friends, we have no commonalities. It was great meeting him after so many years." When asked if she knew Govinda was also coming for the show, she replied, "No, I did not. I eventually said 'yes' to them and only after that, I learnt that Govinda had also been invited. Post that, I knew that it would be amazing."
For the unversed, Neelam Kothari had left her acting career in 2001 and had made a comeback in 2020 with the Netflix series, Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives. Neelam had tied the knot with actor, Samir Soni in 2011. It was after decades that Govinda and Neelam Kothari had reunited on-screen for an episode of the dance reality show, Super Dancer 4. Neelam’s husband, Samir had posted a clip of the episode on his Instagram handle, with the caption, "And the 20 year wait is finally over. @neelamkotharisoni @govinda_herono1."
In a throwback Stardust interview, Govinda had shared that he was so smitten by Neelam Kothari that he used to talk about her to his wife, Sunita Ahuja and even compare them both. Govinda had also asked Sunita to change herself and become like Neelam. Elaborating on the same, Govinda had said, "I would tell Sunita to change herself and become like Neelam. I would tell her to learn from her. I was merciless. Sunita would get irritated. She would tell me, 'You fell in love with me because of what I am, don't ever try to change me'. But I was so confused. I didn't know what to own."
The Neelam and Govinda special episode of the reality show, Super Dancer 4 will go on-air on June 5, 2021. Are you excited to see them together after years?
