Neena Gupta Couldn't Afford C-Section Delivery During Masaba's Birth, Had Only Rs. 2000 In Account

Neena Gupta is one of the few actresses in Hindi cinema who has been vocal about the choices she made in her life. Even when the situations around her were topsy-turvy, Neena believed in herself and moved ahead, facing all the challenges while standing with her head held up high. The actress fell in love with West Indies cricketer Vivian Richards and gave birth to their daughter out of wedlock.

Neena Gupta had no money for a C-section when she was pregnant with Masaba Gupta

Neena Gupta has faced a lot of criticism since she got pregnant with Vivian Richards’ child. Vivian was already married when he had an affair with Neena. While everyone around the actress suggested her to abort the child, Neena went ahead with her pregnancy. She didn’t seek support from anyone and managed everything on her own.

But do you know that when Neena was about to deliver Masaba, she struggled with finances as the actress only had Rs. 2000 in her account. She could only afford a natural birth as a C-section would have cost her Rs. 10,000. However, a tax refund of Rs. 10,000 arrived just a few days before the delivery, bringing her account balance to Rs. 12,000. The money came as a ‘miracle’ as doctors informed Neena that she would require a C-section delivery.

Neena Gupta revealed her regret for having a child out of wedlock

Neena has brilliantly raised her daughter, the ace fashion designer, Masaba Gupa as a single mother. In an interview with the Mumbai Mirror, Neena spoke about her regret over having a child out of wedlock. She revealed:

“I would not have a child outside marriage. Every child needs both parents. I was always honest with Masaba, so it did not affect our relationship, but I know she suffered.”

Why didn’t Neena get married to Vivian Richards despite knowing that she was pregnant?

Neena first met Vivian at a dinner party hosted by the Maharani of Jaipur. The duo connected instantly as she watched him play earlier. Since they didn’t exchange numbers, they lost touch, but when she met him again at the Delhi airport, they got connected and began dating.

Soon, Neena became pregnant and decided to tell Vivian, who had already returned to the West Indies after his tour in India. He was already a married man and had a family in the West Indies. Many people advised Neena to abort the baby and also cautioned her about the perils of being a single parent. However, she called Vivian to tell him about her pregnancy, and he sounded happy with the news. When Neena asked him whether she could continue with the pregnancy, he asked her to go ahead.

In a recent conversation with journalist Shubhankar Mishra, Neena was asked about her relationship with Vivian Richards and whether she loved him; the actress replied that they were in love. The actress elaborated on the reasons for not marrying Vivia despite being pregnant with his child and said:

“It wasn’t practical. Either I would have had to leave behind my job and go to the West Indies, or he would have had to give up his career and come to India; neither of which was possible."
