Disturbing videos from the scene show Charlie clutching his neck in pain before collapsing as panicked students scatter everywhere. 

As the gunman remains on the run, the tragedy of 31-year-old Kirk’s death has taken an even darker turn online, where his grieving widow, Erika Frantzve Kirk, has faced heartless abuse on her social media accounts. While the 36-year-old former Miss Arizona grapples with one of the darkest phases of her life with Charlie’s passing, the insensitive trolling has left netizens disgusted.

It has not even been 24 hours since Erika lost the love of her life and the beloved father of their two toddlers. As she tries to accept the reality of this unimaginable tragedy, she has yet to make an official comment on Charlie Kirk’s demise. In Erika’s most recent Instagram post, posted three days ago, amid the thousands of supportive and consolatory comments, there were biting remarks like “Good riddance”, “Karma is real”, and “Reap what you sow”. One user wrote, “The world is a better place without your husband in it.” Another commented, “Now your children have no father,” followed by several laughing emoticons. 

Some users even posted GIFs with subtle threats, with texts such as “You are next” or gun gestures. One netizen commented, “And now, officially Single Mother, congratulations, haha.” Some went as far as posting “LOL” comments and mocking Erika as her husband’s body was barely cold, sparking outrage among others who accused critics of glorifying political violence.

Amid all the hatred, there were countless comments from users who came in support of Charlie Kirk’s grieving family, including Erika and her two young children. One user wrote, “I hope you and your babies are surrounded by nothing but love and cradled with care.” A second netizen commented, “You are not alone. Jesus is with you in this terrible, hard time.” Another user condemned violence, stating:

“Violence is never an answer. I may not have agreed with Charlie politically, but no family deserves this pain.”

Just hours before Charlie Kirk’s assassination, Erika had posted a Bible verse on X (formerly Twitter). After the tragedy, this post has garnered significant attention, with netizens flooding it with prayers and tributes. Erika tweeted Psalm 46:1 from the Bible:
