Russian Woman Found Living In Gokarna Cave With Daughters Says, 'They Were Very...'

Local police in Karnataka were stunned when a routine check turned into the discovery of an illegal immigrant. The police found a woman and her two young daughters living in a cave during a routine inspection following a landslide in the area near Gokarna. The discovery has left many in disbelief. But what appeared to be a case of abandonment and illegal settlement soon unfolded into a complex story of a mother and her choice for a certain kind of lifestyle.

Who are Nina Kutina and her daughters?

Nina Kutina is a woman in her 40s. She is from Russia and was found living in the cave with her two daughters, Preya, who is 6 years old and Ama, who is 4. They have been living deep within the rocky forests of Gokarna for a while now, and despite the lack of basic comforts, Nina said her children were happy and never in danger. She reportedly claimed that she gave birth to one of the girls when she lived in a cave in Goa. She told ANI:

"We have a lot of experience staying in nature, and we were not dying. I did not bring my children to die in the jungle…they were pleased."

Life in the wild was a choice, not a compulsion for Nina Kutina

Nina shared that she and her children had chosen to live close to nature. She claimed she had spent years living in forests across nearly 20 countries. According to her, the cave was not a place of despair; it was their sanctuary. She insisted that she is well aware of her actions and the consequences.

Nina Kutina's daughters have an Israeli father

While Nina initially avoided questions about the father of the girls, she later revealed that the children's father is an Israeli businessman who is also in his 40s. They met years ago and fell in love. He is currently in India on a business visa, and authorities have tracked him down for further investigation.

Questions Over Nina Kutina and her daughters' visa and legal stay in India

Nina's visa status has raised serious concerns among the authorities. They earlier said that her business visa had expired in 2017, a claim Nina later denied. She admitted her visa had 'finished,' but said it happened only recently and that she had travelled to four other countries before returning to India. The Foreigners Registration Office (FRRO) is now handling her case.
