Anil Kapoor And Boney Kapoor's Mother, Nirmal Kapoor Passes Away At The Age Of 90 In Mumbai

Bollywood's iconic Kapoor family which includes Anil Kapoor and Boney Kapoor, has given some of the most celebrated films in the industry during the '80s and '90s. Known for their legacy and stardom, the family gave many actors to showbiz, and their new generation, including Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor who recently began making their mark in the Hindi film industry. But, amid the glitz, the family is going through a difficult time as their matriarch, Nirmal Kapoor, the mother of Anil Kapoor and his siblings, passed away at the age of 90, leaving everyone in dismay. 

Nirmal Kapoor passes away at the age of 90 in Mumbai

Nirmal Kapoor stayed away from the spotlight during her life. But, she played the role of a central figure in the Kapoor household who held the fort during the ups and downs in their family. While her children and grandchildren shined on the big screen, Nirmal always backed them with her steady and loving presence. Consequently, Kapoor has been left devastated by her demise on May 2, 2025. 

As per the initial media reports, Nirmal Kapoor, 90, was admitted to the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital due to her ill health and passed away at the age of 90 due to age-related issues. For those unaware, she was admitted to the hospital multiple times in the past few months. After her demise, media gathered near her residence, where they spotted Janhvi Kapoor with her boyfriend, Shikhar Pahariya, Anshula Kapoor and Boney Kapoor among others, as they were completing the arrangements for her final rites which will take place on May 3, 2025. Nirmal was married to film producer, Surinder Kapoor, who passed away in 2011. The family hasn't released any official statement on the issue, but a source close to the family shared: 

"Anil Kapoor is bereaved."

When Anil Kapoor wished his mother on her 90th birthday

Nirmal Kapoor turned 90 in 2024. On the special occasion, the whole Kapoor family had gathered like they do at every special occasion to wish the head of their family. Everyone shared multiple posts through their personal social media handles, but the most special birthday wish was made by Anil Kapoor, who shared a special throwback picture with his mom on the occasion. Sharing the picture, he recalled her efforts for the family and penned:

"90 years of love, strength, and endless sacrifices. Your presence fills our lives with joy and positivity every day. Blessed to be your child. Happy birthday, Mummy!"

More about the Kapoor family 

Nirmal Kapoor tied the knot with film producer, Surinder Kapoor in 1955. He was a distant cousin of Prithviraj Kapoor, and they came to Mumbai at the legendary actor's instance. Surinder Kapoor began his journey from scratch in the film industry and became a successful producer, while their kids also found their footing in the industry. They had four kids: sons, Anil, Sanjay and Boney and daughter, Reena Kapoor. Nirmal was also the grandmother of Arjun Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Rhea Kapoor, Harsh Vardhan Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor, Anshula Kapoor, Khushi Kapoor, Shanaya Kapoor and Mohit Marwah.
