Amar Singh Chamkila is hands down one of the most talked about films in recent times. The movie features Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra in lead roles, with the former playing the titular character. The viewers appreciated both the leads’ performances, and the film’s director, Imtiaz Ali, revealed he wouldn’t have made the film if Diljit Dosanjh refused to play the lead in it. Now, we got hold of a report which states that AR Rahman, the music composer and director of the film wanted someone else to be lead.
In a behind-the-scenes video shared by Kapil Sharma, the ace comedian revealed that AR Rahman called him for the role of Amar Singh Chamkila in the Imtiaz Ali directorial biopic. However, he missed the call as he was overseas and could not connect with the Academy Award-winning musician. Later, when AR Rahman met Kapil, he told him they reached out to him to discuss his role in Amar Singh Chamkila. In Kapil’s words:
“I met Rahman, sir, one day, and he said, ‘I called you for Chamkila.’ I think he wanted me to sing a song or something. I thought he was just sweet-talking with me. I said, ‘Sir, we were overseas which is why we couldn’t speak to each other.’”

Kapil Sharma added that he regretted missing the call as if he had picked up the call, he could have played the role of Amar Singh Chamkila. Kapil Sharma added that after the revelation, he cried the whole night for the missed opportunity. Kapil Sharma further added:
"I felt really bad, I cried the whole night. It was unfortunate."
In the same video, Imtiaz Ali, a renowned filmmaker, revealed that AR Rahman, a maestro in the music industry, spoke very highly of Kapil Sharma's singing. He added that if things hadn't worked out with Diljit Dosanjh, Kapil would have also been his next choice as Rahman emphasised on Kapil's acting and singing skills. In his words:
"But Rahman sir said that if Diljit couldn't do this film, we had only one more choice which was you."
