After serving fire through the nerves of his fans with the movie, Animal, Ranbir was in talks to be in Nitesh Tiwari's film, Ramayana. While the actor's fans were excited, others stated that he was not 'apt' for the part, given the controversies around him. However, later he was confirmed to play the lead in the much-anticipated movie, whose teaser was released on July 3, 2025.
The first part of Ramayana will be released on Diwali 2026, and ahead of that, viewers have been going gaga, only after witnessing the teaser. 1-2 seconds of a glimpse that featured Ranbir as 'Ram' left people wowed. But did you know that Ranbir was not the first choice for this role? While not confirmed, several reports first hinted that a South Indian actor was first opted as 'Ram', which was none other than Mahesh Babu. Later, reports confirmed that Ranbir would be the lead in the movie, taking 'Ram's character to the heights.
Well, Yash will play the role of the antagonist 'Ravana' in the movie. But, reportedly, a Bollywood star was first selected in the role of 'Ravana' even before Yash. Reports claim that Bollywood's 'Greek God', Hrithik Roshan, was the first choice for the role of 'Ravana' in the movie. However, he allegedly stated that he was not ready to play a negative role as of now, and thus, the project fell into the hands of the KGF star, Yash. Not only this, initial reports claimed that Alia Bhatt would play the role of 'Sita', but she allegedly backed out due to date issues. However, it's Sai Pallavi who will be seen as 'Sita' in the Rs. 850 crore movie, Ramayana.
The reason that Ranbir Kapoor plays the role of 'Ram' in Ramayana is that there has been a lot of gossip about the same. A concern was raised about him playing the role of 'Ram', since the controversies around him playing an intense role in Animal, consuming alcohol, eating non-veg and also smoking. However, all the talks ended with the first glimpse of the movie, in which Ranbir was seen showcasing his skills to fit the role of 'Ram' by climbing a tree to strike an arrow like a master through his bow. Only 1-2 seconds of his screen presence in the teaser was enough to make the hearts racing.
While fans remained excited to see the entire movie, some questioned if it would be somewhat like Adipurush. There had been a certain section of netizens who stated that it was Ram Charan who could have been a better fit for the role of 'Ram' in the movie. Ram Charan was seen in SS Rajamouli's RRR as 'Sitarama Raju', also known as 'Rama Raju', who was seen taking on the avatar of 'Lord Ram' during a crucial battle. Sharing his photos in the look of Ram, his fans have been claiming that, as per them, this Pan-Indian actor would have been the best fit for the lead role.
