Om Raut's directorial film, Adipurush is all set to hit the silver screen on June 16, 2023. The trailer and the songs have already made a place in the hearts of the audience. For the unversed, the film stars Prabhas as 'Raghava', Kriti Sanon as 'Janaki', and Saif Ali Khan as 'Lankesh' in the lead roles. Several reports have claimed that the film is made on a high budget and will be one of the most expensive Hindi films ever. However, although everyone is familiar with the star cast of the film, not many know about the talented director, Om Raut himself. So without further ado, let's meet the marvellous director, Om Raut.
The 40-year-old director, Om Raut was born on December 21, 1981, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. His father, Bharatkumar Raut is a senior journalist and a respected MP of Shiv Sena. He is also a member of the Rajya Sabha, a well-known author, and has been the editor of Maharastra Times.

The 5 ft 8 inches director's mother, Neena Raut, is a famous television producer and has treated the television industry with shows like Tak Dhina Dhin and Ruperi. For the uninformed, Om Raut's grandfather, J. S. Bandekar (1925–2017), was also a famous documentary filmmaker and editor.
Talking about Om Raut's education, the director completed his schooling at Balmohan Vidyamandir, Mumbai, India. After that, he went on to join Shah and Anchor College of Engineering in Mumbai and bagged a bachelor's degree in electronics engineering. After earning his bachelor's degree went to New York for further studies. Om Raut earned his post-graduate degree in film from Syracuse University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts. In 2021, the dynamic director was also reported to be pursuing a PhD degree in the business of cinema.

Although Om Raut won his fame in the Hindi film industry as a director in the film, Tanhaji, it is surprising enough to know that he started his career as a child artist. Yes, you read it right. Om Raut started his career as a child artist in 1993 with the movie, Karamati Coat. The movie was an award-winning Bollywood kids' comedy movie directed by Ajay Kartik and starred, Irrfan Khan. In the movie, Om Raut played the role of 'Raju', which was one of the lead roles. Apart from the movie, Om also worked as a child artist in many other theatrical productions and commercials. According to several reports, it was the director's producer mom, Neena Raut, who introduced him to the lights of the entertainment world in his early childhood.
After completing his college studies, Om Raut started working as a writer and director at MTV Network in New York City. Thereafter he returned to India and joined DAR Motion Pictures as Creative Director. Soon after that, he was made the vice president of creative business at Valuable Group, the promoters of UFO-Moviez.
Later, Om Raut followed in his mother's footsteps and tried his hands as a producer. Om Raut produced a 2011 Hindi film, Haunted – 3D. His debut as a producer was in the film, City of Gold, which was a 2010 Indian political thriller film and was released in Hindi and Marathi languages. In 2012, Om Raut co-founded his mom, Neena's film production house, Neena Raut Flims.
Om Raut's directorial debut was the 2015 Marathi film Lokmanya: Ek Yug Purush, the first production under his mom's home production company, Neena Raut Flims. The movie starred Subodh Bhave, Chinmay Mandlekar, and Priya Bapat in the lead roles, leaving a positive impact on the hearts of the audience. For the film, Om Raut even earned the Best Debut Director award. The film essayed the life of an Indian social reformer and freedom fighter, Bal Gangadhar Tilak.

However, after getting a lot of positive responses in his directorial debut, Om Raut went on to ride high in his career and treated the cine-lovers with the 2020 Hindi film, Tanhaji, starring Kajol, Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan, Neha Sharma and more. His next movie, Adipurush, is yet to get responses from the audience, but even before that, the trailer has made a positive impact. For the unversed, Om Raut's movie, Adipurush will be a pan-India movie and is reportedly made on a budget of Rs. 700 Crores.
During his professional career, Om Raut has bagged several prestigious awards and accolades. With his debut directorial film, Lokmanya: Ek Yug Purush, he earned the Filmfare Award 2016 as the Best Debut Director. His debut film also brought him the 52nd Maharashtra State Awards as the Best Director in 2015. Apart from that, for Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, Om Raut bagged the 66th Filmfare Awards in 2021 as the Best Director and the 68th National Film Awards in 2022.
Undoubtedly, Adipurush has made a craze among fans even before it hit the silver screen. But the high-budget movie also brought some controversies along with it. For the unversed, Adipurush is a mythological film and an adaptation of the Hindu epic Ramayana. However, as per the reports, in 2022, a case was registered against the director over Saif Ali Khan's look in Adipurush.
In October 2022, after the film's promotional video was launched, it again attracted controversies by the claim that Hindu deities were misrepresented in an “unwarranted” and “inaccurate” manner. Soon after, at a press conference, Om Raut dismissed the allegations, claiming that Saif's, i.e., 'Ravan's, appearance was designed by the film's creators and had a contemporary connection. In the same conversation, he also added that Adipurush is just a translation from books to celluloid.
Recently, On June 7, 2023, Kriti Sanon and the director, Om Raut, were spotted outside the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple as they went out to seek blessings for their much-anticipated film. However, what gave rise to the controversies was when Om Raut was seen giving Kriti a kiss when they were parting ways. The internet was divided as they didn't like this PDA in such a religious place. Soon after such an incident, both the director and the actress were brutally trolled, and netizens even started calling their behaviour shameless.
