'Only Murders In The Building' Boss Talks Horrors Of Season 5 Finale And The Major Move For Season 6

Only Murders in the Building Season 5 finale has been released, and ahead of the big showdown, the showmaker, John Hoffman, has shared some insights into what's in store for the finale and Season 6. The show's director sat down with Deadline for a conversation and shared the horrifying details of what fans can expect in the coming episodes. 

John Hoffman talks about 'Lester' and what's coming in Season 6

The Only Murders in the Building Season 5 finale featured the voice of 'Lester'. The Arconia doorman died serving the building and the residents. However, John has now reflected on bringing 'Lester' to an end and on how he planned it. The showrunner revealed that this year was complicated because they had to understand the position they wanted 'Lester' in.

However, that was not the only matter to consider, as they also had to see how other characters would react to it. The director, John Hoffman, also reflected on what's next in Season 6. He revealed that the team will be going back to the beginning for Season 6. He was quoted as saying:

"After that three-month jump in the episode, it’s always that vacuum of like for a trio looking at, you know, what now? What next? Where do we go? And all of that. The character of Cinda started everything, so we’re going back to the beginning. So the nature of what she’s doing, what she is doing over in England, doing this thing now, why? I got to know more about it, and it’s an opportunity to tease something that opens up a whole new mystery in the cozy murder-mystery home, which felt very exciting."

John Hoffman on the big move in Only Murders in the Building Season 6

Only Murders in the Building Season 6 was announced on October 27, 2025. However, it comes with its own set of surprises with the upcoming big move that will lead the show to London. When asked how John feels about moving to London, he confirmed that the upcoming season will be shot solely in London. However, there will be ample connections leading them back to New York. He was quoted as saying:

"London is New York’s sister city. There will be all sorts of connectors. We will take our storytelling and steep it into this new culture, and our trio will be fish in new waters."

What happened in Only Murders in the Building Season 5?

In Only Murders in the Building Season 6, the murder of the Arconia's doorman, 'Lester', is finally solved. 'Mabel' (Selena Gomez) finally unveils 'Mayor Beau Tillman' (Keegan-Michael Key) as the killer, motivated by a potential alliance with Camila White (Renee Zellweger), who plans on buying the building and turning it into a casino. The Mayor stands to gain financially and politically from the deal. The season also unravels the murder of 'Nicky Caccimelio' (Bobby Cannavale), a mobster whose wife, 'Sofia' (Téa Leoni), had an affair with the Mayor. In a flashback, it's shown that 'Lester' killed 'Nicky' while defending the residents. The season finale also kills off 'Cinda Canning' (Tina Fey), setting the stage for a new direction in London for the show's upcoming sixth season.
