The Air India AI 171 crash still haunts the families of all the passengers onboard who died in the fatal accident. Within minutes, at least 240 people lost their lives, and one of them was the only survivor of the Air India flight, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh. However, while he survived, he lost his younger brother. For the first time, Vishwash recalled the horrific last moments.

Vishwash Kumar Ramesh recalled the horrific crash

It was the hot summer day of June when the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, working as a passenger flight, was bound for London's Gatwick airport, which crashed within seconds of take-off. Ramesh survived and became the sole survivor of the crash, where everyone else died. In an interview with Sky News, Ramesh revealed that he thought he was going to die, but when he opened his eyes, he realised he was alive. He said:

"I thought I was going to die … when I opened my eyes and realised I was alive."

Before the plane crashed into the building, Ramesh revealed that the lights flickered, the power went out, and then the plane crashed. However, he miraculously found an exit, then unbuckled himself, pushed through the opening with his legs, and crawled out. As he made his way out of the debris, the picture still haunts him. There were bodies all around of passengers and crew, which was consumed by flames or trapped in wreckage. People remember Vishwash as the man walking casually out of the Air India wreckage. He was branded as a miracle, but the pain of surviving is much worse for him. He revealed that God gave him life but took all his happiness, as he lost his brother and his family is completely broken. He said:

"God gave me life but took all my happiness … I lost my brother … my family has completely broken down."

Vishwash has a four-year-old child and he revealed that it had been four months since he had talked with his son. He has stopped going out to work. All day he sits in his bed, stays awake, and only sleeps for three to four hours. Vishwash also stated that there is a lot of pain in his back, knees, and a burning sensation after the crash. And it is his wife who helps him with regular chores. He said:

"I just stay awake, I sleep maybe three to four hours … yes it’s a miracle I survived, but I lost everything."
