Padma Lakshmi Of 'Top Chef' Reveals 15-Yr-Daughter Judges Her Outfits, 'Brutal With Each Other..'

Padma Parvati Lakshmi is an American television host, model and author. She is famously known for her appearance on the cooking competition, Top Chef. Recently, Padma Lakshmi, who is going through perimenopause and her daughter have hit puberty. The two revealed how they often judge each other's outfits.

Padma Lakshmi revealed her daughter's fashion advice

Recently, Padma Lakshmi and her 15-year-old daughter, Krishna, were featured on the cover of Vogue India for September 2025. During an interview, they got candid about judging each other's outfits. Her daughter, Krishna, revealed that they do not say anything to each other when one is not able to decide on an outfit within seconds. But before they leave the house, they honestly review each other's outfits. Krishna said:

"We go by the five-second rule. If the other person can't change [their outfit] in five seconds and [the comment] is negative, don't say it. But before we leave the house, we're pretty brutal with each other. I will be like, 'You can't wear that in public with me.'"

On the other hand, Padma revealed that her teenage daughter is always telling her to dress more provocatively. But Krishna interrupted and said that her mother gives her the exact opposite. Despite their fashion argument, the 15-year-old Krishna cannot keep her hands off her mother's closet, and she looks out for her clothing and accessories every day. 

Padma revealed that it drives her nuts, as there was a time when Krishna sneaked in her closet and decided to wear her precious gold bangles from her wedding day to school in her sixth grade. In her defence, Krishna called her mother's closet a 'time capsule of fashion'.

Padma revealed how there is a lot of feminine energy in their home 

Krishna is all set for her sophomore year of high school in September. On the other hand, Padma will start filming America's Culinary Cup in the meantime. After which, she will be on a tour to promote her cookbook. Despite the busy schedule, they share a close bond that has started since Krishna's birth. Padma revealed that she has been going through perimenopause while her daughter is going through puberty. 

Padma added that she is happy that Krishna thinks her to be the most important thing in her life. Explaining her stance, Padma stated that five years down the line, Krishna will have her own life. She was quoted as saying:

"It’s just the two of us under one roof. While I’m going through perimenopause, she’s going through puberty. It’s a lot of female energy. It’s wonderful what Krishna said earlier, that we’re the most important thing in each other’s lives. Because five years from now, she will have her whole own life. So I just want to make sure she has a well-rounded understanding of what her craft is and what being an artist means."
