'They Kept Laughing Till He Died' Pahalgam Victim, Shailesh's Wife Recalls The Horrifying Attack

The eve of April 22, 2025, was smeared with the blood of twenty-six innocent tourists after they fell victim to the tragic attack in Pahalgam of Jammu and Kashmir. The news left the country in utter shock and while the government has put sanctions on Pakistan for the horrid incident, the citizens have demanded justice for those who lost their lives. Amid that the wife of one of the victims, Shailesh Kalathiya, has shared the anecdote of the horrid attack.

Pahalgam victim, Shailesh Kalathiya's wife, Shital demands justice for her husband 

The attack in Pahalgam has left an aching scar on the heart of the entire country. The citizens have demanded justice for the tragedy that left 26 families in tears. Among the victims of the terror attack was, Shailesh Kalathiya, a Surat based banker who had gone on a vacation with his family to Kashmir. Now, his wife, Shital Kalathiya, has come forward and demanded justice from the politicians and the government. 

Shital Kalathiya's husband, Shailesh's last rights were performed in the presence of central Jal Shakti minister, CR Patil, local MP, Mukesh Dalal, and Gujarat's Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghvi. Apart from politicians, a large crowd had gathered at the Kasturi Bungalow Society in the Mota Varachha area of Surat. The grieving wife in conversation with the officials demanded justice for her late husband. Shailesh had taken a leave from his job as a manager at the State Bank of India in Mumbai to spend time with his family on vacation. 

Shital also said that her family has lost confidence in the security forces, as she alleged that an army man asked her who told her to visit Pahalgham. She pointed out how the government deducts taxes even before they get their salaries, yet they failed to provide security to her husband. She further expressed her anger at how VIPs get all the facilities and was quoted as saying:

"The government cuts the tax before we get our salary. We pay taxes at the time of shopping and also pay toll tax. VIPs get all facilities, including helicopters. But when my husband needed security, he failed to get it."

In the same conversation. Shital Kalathiya revealed that all the officials and security personnel only came for a photo opportunity, not when her husband, Shaliesh, needed them. She recalled how after the terrorist had shot her husband, they stayed and laughed till he passed away. While she admitted that the victims were separated based on their religion, she also pointed out how the incident was a massive flaw in the country's security. She was quoted as saying:

"All politicians, officials, and security came only after the incident for a photo op, but were not there when my husband needed it most. The terrorist who shot my husband was laughing at that time. He stayed there till my husband died. They separated the tourists based on religion before opening fire. What kind of government is this that could not save its citizens? I want the government to secure the futures of all families who have lost a member." 

Shailesh Kalathiya's ten-year-old son, Naksh Kalathiya recalled the horrifying attack

Shailesh Kalathiya was visiting Kashmir on a weeklong vacation with his wife, son and daughter. In a conversation with the Times of India, the victim's ten-year-old son recalled the occurrence and revealed that the terrorists had fixed a camera on a cap. He recalled that they were hungry and had gone to get some food when they heard the noise. While his mother, Shital stayed with their father, she asked them to go down. He stated:

"As we were hungry, we went to have food. Suddenly, the noise of firing bullets started as everyone started running here and there to save their lives. My mother stayed with my father and asked us to go down. The terrorists separated the males based on religion and killed them. The terrorists were wearing a cap with a camera fixed on it."
