Pakistani serials have gained a large fan base and a dedicated fan base in India. The storylines of the shows are not dragged on for years and have a very concise way of storytelling. However, there is a very popular Pakistani serial called Dayan, which is being slammed by Pakistani fans for shelling out Indian entertainment channel Star Plus vibes. If you are a 90s kid you will know that most of the characters in Star Plus serials have been known for playing dramatic roles in a saree. Although, Pakistani drama, Dayan, that has Mehwish Hayat, Ahsan Khan, Hira Mani, Osama Tahir, Sohail Sameer, Shamil Khan, Zainab Qayum, Afsheen Hayat, Nayyar Ejaz, and Nida Mumtaz, has been slammed by the viewers.
For the unversed, Dayan has been directed by Siraj Ul Haq who had also directed, Tere Bin. The serial has been written by Fatima Faizan, Amber Azhar and has a lot of emotional connection, depth related to supernatural things. The serial, whose script has been written by Fatima Fazan and Amber Azhar, has 3.5 million views on each episode. However, the drama has received a lot of criticism. Now, reportedly, 20 episodes have been aired since the serial premiered on February 24, 2025. Now, according to a report by Brides And You, there have been many netizens from Pakistan who have found that the serial has a striking resemblance to Indian serials aired on Star Plus.
Currently, the tension is high between India and Pakistan, and amid that, Pakistani fans have found that Hira Mani, a Pakistani actress, her character was usually seen in a saree in Dayan. While sarees are known to be an important part of the Indian culture, Pakistani fans want to see Hira's character wear salwar kameez. There have been allegations that the serial, Dayan, is trying to adopt an Indian visual tone, which has not gelled well with many.
Fans of Dayan have already revealed that the serial feels like it is copied from some Indian supernatural show. Pakistani fans were also upset when they revolted against Ahsan Khan's pill-related scene. A lot of details were not revealed related to the same, but Pakistani fans felt that medical-related scenes in the show were totally unrelated and did not do justice to the narrative of the serial. This has added more buzz to the fire, questioning the intent of the show.
There is no doubt that the serial, Dayan has been made with a lot of ambition as the production set was very high. Apart from the stellar cast, the serial focused on a bold theme, where the storyline has been compelling. However, Pakistani audiences are not very happy with the fact that the creativity of their land's serial is trying to take inspiration from the land of another places storytelling which is now trying to alienate the viewers.

Mehwish, a Pakistani actress, made her comeback to the world of Lollywood serials with Dayan. She plays the role of 'Nihaal', who is a student at the university and comes from a strict household. Her character was shown to face a lot of oppression from her dad, who was not at all educated. Her role had received mixed reactions from her fans.
